Just picked an OK coin from my florins and scanned it to practice grading.

It measures about 15cm on my screen, so I guess that's like 5x magnification? (I have the original 30cm size). Firstly I'm wondering if scanning inside 2x2s is fine for grading?

I have a disability & find scanning/viewing onsceen heaps easier than using a magnifier. Perhaps a combination of on-screen & viewing coins with naked eye (to see lusture or details which can't be seen on the scan) is adequate to grade with reasonable accuracy?

So the coin it seems perhaps gVF as the highpoints are flattened but details are still there?

mate. I'm still learning my self so I'll leave the grading for the big kids, but your scans look good and quite a few people leave them in the 2x2

I'm sure someone will be jump in soon and give an opinion, just don't start WW3 time to put the feet up

would you say thatthe obverse is the weaker side? as per the link's description "flattening to most of the design...... Rims should be strong and appear as struck though with wear throughout.". I guess George Vs hair has no detail but the rim is ok.

The small amount of detail on his hair at the top isn't enough to get gF (I guess that part is pretty worn too)?

To compare, it seems like this one is more like aF or gVG rather than aVF?

I'd say Fine, once the gap between the top of the ear and hair goes then we are down into the VG grades.

That is what I use at least.

But there is also the fact that I'm Shultz... I know nothing....Nothing.

That would be aVF - look how detailed the obverse is. The lack of reverse detail is a strike characteristic of the date.

You guys are generous. I would grade Almost Fine." Cud" is probably 2x2 "fluff". Which is why I don't like 2x2's.

with airgem on this one. I think there is too much wear to get Fine. The dot in the N looks like something trapped in the 2x2. At the end of the day its still silver
