Hello all. I was recently perusing my coin collection and decided to pull out my foreign coins which I have not done in years. I came across an 1889 Queen Victoria Canadian quarter. From what I've read it's a decent coin. I suppose it is in fairly good condition. I have zero knowledge regarding grades and what have you. The obverse shows wear that I imagine to be typical of a coin of that age. The reverse is in much better shape. All the markings are very clear. What would be a reasonable value of such a coin? Thank for taking the time and I'm really looking forward to your thoughts.

John, thank you for the link, it was very helpful. There are several letter/number combinations which I assume are the different grades. Could you provide a helpful link that will assist me in grading coins?

If you post a picture of the coin in question, there are many members here that would be happy to provide an opinion of the grade.

The 1889 quarter is one of the lowest mintages of all the Canadian decimals and is a coveted coin, especially in grades above VF-20. Prices for this coin range anywhere from $100.00 to a whopping $50,000 for there are 6 known in MS-63 graded by I.C.C.S. Hang on to it regardless of the grade, makes a nice Collectors item!

Glenzy1,I had no idea about the scarcity of the coin. And to think that it has spent the last 15 years or so hanging out in a large ziplock bag with all of my other world coins. I've had a great deal of fun going over my coins the last couple of days. I do have another question for the forum though. While trying to evaluate these coins I've come across websites giving what they refer to as catalog prices for coins. What is a catalog price?

Looks like a Good-4 at best.

I don't have my trends on hand, but I believe it retails for $100 to $150

That quarter a think was the lowest mintage ever. decent shape considering age and circulated. I agree with the $100-$150 range.
