for one of these.

I had to add a couple of $20 bills to the zinc to seal the deal.

I don't have a clue what the 2011D is worth. I was offered $150 for it, and I took it. There's roughly $190 worth of gold in the 1/4 eagle.

I don't collect errors, but I do enjoy finding them. Finding this one gives me a start on the gold page for my 7070.

I'd say that was a fair trade. You might have been able to do a little better since it is a rare date (so far), but you still did very well. Thats a great error!

Thanks ErrorCoins222. Trust me, I weighed the option of sitting on this one for awhile. When it came back with a 66 grade, I figured I might have something worth holding onto.

Then again, "what-if" a few hundred more of these are found in the next couple of years? It'll surely bring the price down some. The "newness" of it is both a blessing and a curse imho.

I type all this while looking at 1/2 a box of unopened bank-wrapped rolls of 2011D's sitting beside my desk. Knowing myself as well as I do, I'll probably spend some time this weekend cracking them all open.

I don't know if I rellllllllllly came out ahead Carl.

After all, I simply swapped out $.01 for $2.50. A $2.49 profit!

That's what I'm planning on claiming anyways...

The ghost of BiggFredd just asked me:
"How could it be slobbed "RD" when it has no copper plating?"

I've seen the same thing with cent dies that struck dime planchets. It must just be in there system that a designation like this must be used or something.

Nice trade for now, but a gut feeling says that the slabbed zinc penny should have been kept. You can always buy gold.
