Here is a picture in a sale of the Saudi Arabian Silver Proof Medal. I want to buy it and I have a chance to buy it from here in Saudi Arabia for a bit less than $40. Do you think it is worth it? And if I would want to sell it later on the bay or something, how much should I ask for?

As bullion I think the price is high. I'm not much for trying to combine bullion with collect-ability or numismatic coins. There are just too many factors that control the price.

With that said I have seen these offered for as much as $78 though I have not seen them sell at that price.

If you like it buy it, if you looking for the most bang for the buck then there are better choices in the non bullion type of speculation.

I wouldn't be a buyer of it for sure ...
any bullion would work much better.

For $40 you can get silver bullion which is recognizable every where ...
If you come with this coin to coin shop, I don't think you will get anything above the spot ... in best case.
While buying for investment purposes think of what you would get if you sell immediately. How much you should wait to make a profit? etc.

Yes I get what you mean bekiz. But you know, I live in a place where it is very hard to lay hands on US coinage let alone Bullion. So if I pay $40 for this I will have to pay at least double for other Bullion. That is because of shipping and such.

I don't know anything about the market in the Middle East. Thus I don't know if you can buy from the many internet sites such as APMEX, Provident Metals, etc.

I do not know what is available in your local markets nor the mark up price. Thus it makes it hard to give you advice. In addition I'm not sure what you are trying to do with your silver / gold.

I like government issued bullion coins but there is so much more you can buy such as silver rounds and bars. The coin you are talking about might be a big seller in the Middle East, I am sure people in that part of the world would recognize it.

My issue is that you are paying a $13 premium over the spot value of silver that you may not get back. Then again this coin may raise in price but I just don't know.

You might have access to items such as the 1 oz Silver Somalian African Elephant.

If you have to pay a large mark up for the ASE, Maple, Panda and other then this might be a bargain in your area.

Good Luck I am just sorry I don't know much about the silver market where you live as far as availability.

Yeah you are right. I don't what I will do yet. But I will check APMEX now and hopefully it works out. Thanks for the help and I will let you know what I do :)

I am not sure that this is a bullion piece, but a silver or silver plated commemorative medal.

There is no statement of fineness or weight.

It is a 1 oz .999 silver piece. I'm sure of its weight and fineness. So let's say it is perfect and very fine. Should I bother getting it?

If you like the coin and would enjoy owning it, the answer is yes. But you might want to explore other buying options first.

If you pay $40.00 for this coin locally, and assuming that it is .999 silver, you are paying a very large premium to own this coin. As someone else said earlier, you may not get your money back when you decide to sell if you pay too much now.

Before buying that coin, though, it might be wise to check ebay and maybe two or three online silver bullion dealers in Europe and North America. If the price of a similar bullion coin, plus the cost of shipping, insurance, and any import duties owed at time of delivery is lower than $40.00, you might consider buying your coin online. I cannot stress this enough: when buying online you must carefully total up all of the costs associated with getting that coin to you. Obviously, a $29.00 BU Canadian Silver Maple coin is not going to be a good deal if it costs an additional $20.00 for shipping and insurance.

Please remember that there are counterfeit bullion and silver commemorative coins for sale everywhere in the world. Learning everything about a coin before you buy is essential to protecting yourself. As sel_69l mentioned before, it is commonplace for gold and silver bullion coins to have a statement of weight and fineness on the coin. Just be careful you know for certain what you're buying to avoid later disappointment. Good luck!
