Lack of communication my butt. They intentionally withheld the info till after the sales were over. That just confirms (if true of course) they knew about it all along and decided not to say a word till after sales ended

Yes, that's true and was assumed
It also answers the question about whether there will be more RP's offered which is a big deal with the purchasers of the 2 coin set

At least theyre smart enough to realize if they offered the RP too everyone would cancel the special set orders.
They should have just lied and said the decision for the S proof to be the coin was a last minute one

Since I have a collection of ASE and have a two coin set coming my way; why would I want to add this new product just to get a $5 FRB note. Is the $5 note really that special? I'm still of the opinion that I'll pass on this product.

The note probably isn't anything special at all. Only real reason would be an S proof at a lower price.

At this point I'm probably going to pass as well.

I just went online to see what the cost of this set would be, their search engine did not recognize the product description from the product schedule page.
Although I probably will not purchase the set, basebal21's comment about its lower price caught my interest. I guess now I will never know and will stay with my original pass opinion. Just saying.

Weird they removed it from the webpage. Wonder if theres a change coming from the negative feedback.
Its listed as 72.95 which also includes a 5 dollar bill so if you dont want the bill its really just 67.96 which is less than half of the two coin set

True it is less than half the cost of the set, but the S proof will be $15 more than the W proof once the repricing goes into effect. I don't see this set as attractive to any ASE collector.

Yea thats true but the W has a lot higher minatge. I honestly dont see the set as attractive at all either, all it does is devalue the S coin in the set. If someone really loved the S it would be a good way to get more but thats about it

I don't understand why the mint takes a product offline when they are repricing downward. As long as they tell us that is what they are doing why not let us pay more if we want to? Even with previous pricing, the S-proof would have been $60 as part of the set (the RP about $85 and the packaging about $5). It isn't realistic to split the cost of the two coin set evenly between the coins, the RP casts significantly more to produce. My real question is about shipping dates. If the C&C set starts shipping inside the FS/ER window for the two coin set, will the TPGs suddenly start requiring sealed mint packaging (for both sets)?

Quote: I don't understand why the mint takes a product offline when they are repricing downward. Is it really even that hard to reprice on their website? It takes about 5 seconds to change prices on every other website

This whole thing smells really fishy, what's next US Mint? It will make you think about the next "special" ASE set that comes along that is for sure!

Most items the mint sells direct to the public have to have their priced published in the Federal Register before they can be sold at that price. That process usually takes a couple of weeks to happen. When spot rises to near the sale price it makes sense to take the product offline while a new price can be set and published but when spot is falling and an item is to have its price lowered, I don't get why they don't just give us the information and let us decide whether we want to pay a high price now or wait for a lower price (that may never come if spot rises again). They can put an item back on sale at its already published price at any time, something they have done before after short upward spikes in spot. So, yes, it is hard to reprice items on the website.
