I spoke to PCGS and they said that any sets sent in for grading that want FS or just the 75th Anni label can be sent in opened, as long as they are postmarked before the cutoff date for FS (30 days after first shipment sent). So only the first ship date of 7.27 will be eligible for cherry picking and FS. Any SF 2-coin set sent in for grading must be sealed in the original mint packaging ship box after the FS cutoff to be eligible for the 75th Anni label... It may be possible that the C&C set could get the SF mint-mark regular proof a FS designation, but I would assume that the cutoff for FS will come before the C&C set ships out, we will see.

But againt posting it on the federal reserve website should be as simple as a phone call over to there to their pricing people "hey its the mint director we need these items repriced to these amounts thanks"
Gotta love government red tape

If they are going to reprice the gold items they will do it within one day..usually on a Thursday...makes no sense why this is taking so long...everyone in the world knows it will be $5 less
Just go out on a limb and do it

Thinking about it a little more the only guess I can come up with is theyre hoping silver will bump up enough not to have to reprice it. I agree it makes no sense how they do the gold and platinum so quickly and take forever with silver

As predicted:
2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle Coin Reduced by $5
by CoinNews.net on July 24, 2012 ยท
2012-W Proof American Silver Eagles have yet to return from a re-pricing suspension, but they should soon. And at a lower price.
Collectors will pay $5 less per coin, the U.S. Mint states in a pricing notice that will appear tomorrow, July 25, in the Federal Register.
Released on April 12 at $59.95 when silver hovered near $31.50 an ounce, the Silver Eagle's new $54.95 price comes at a time when the white metal has struggled to attain $27 an ounce.
Pulled from U.S. Mint store shelves in mid-July after silver had hit an all-time 2012 low of $26.67 an ounce, the proof American Silver Eagle was the lone silver product to face a temporary suspension -- perhaps due to its higher premium. The coin's new premium remains hefty still, at about $28 above the melt value of its one ounce of 99.9% fine silver. Its companion uncirculated Eagle also from West Point is scheduled for release on August 2 at a lower price of $45.95.

On July 17th I sent an email to the US Mint on the "contact us" portion of their web site. I basically asked them to confirm whether or not the proof eagle in this set will have an S mint mark. The response came today: Quote: Dear Tom,
We apologize for any lack of communication on our part that may have led you to assume that the American Eagle Silver Proof Coin with the S mint mark would only be offered in the 2012 American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set.
The United States Mint strives to offer a variety of products in various packaging and price points to help broaden access to our coins. In doing so, we routinely package our coins in various ways to make them as appealing as possible to different customer segments and at different price points.
Please note that the American Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Silver Proof Set also contains a 2012 reverse proof, which is not available in the coin and currency set nor is it planned for any other 2012 product option.
Again, please accept our apologies if the lack of more specific communications related to these two sets caused confusion.
Sincerely, United States Mint

I love how they pretty much worded it like we should have know this was going to happen all along

That note from the Mint is a bunch of BS....EVERY other item sold by the Mint is put on the "upcoming items" list way in advance of sales...sometimes even without a sales date (TBD). Announcement for this one was deliberately held back until sales for the 2 coin set were completed....

TJB17 I Found Your Email amusing I also Contacted The Mint Quote: Your upcoming product Making American History Coin and Currency Set TA8 appears to have an American Eagle Proof with S Mint Mark, If this is correct then you should have said something before the 2012 AE SILVER 2-COIN SET was sold, at a minimum we should have been warned that the proof Eagle was not exclusive to this set and there by will not be recognized by 3rd party graders as such unless they are received unsealed from you. If you are trying to loose Customers your are doing a good job. We need COMMUNICATION.
The answer I received was exactly the same as yours Word for word They even answer complaints with a form letter

That makes it appear as if they had the response letter written and approved before the SF two coin set went on sale. Form responses don't happen suddenly, they have to be written, edited, reviewed, edited again, and signed off on before they are put into the database to be used by all who handle complaints. This has been my number one complaint with the mint and PBGS since early 2009, the total lack of honest communication. Starting back with the UHRDE, if they had simply told us the truth in a timely manner, we would almost certainly purchased far more products with far fewer complaints. Even with these "apologies", they still have not modified the product page for the TA8 (Making American History Coin and Currency Set) page to clearly state that it includes the same 2012-S proof ASE that is in the 2 coin SF set. So many of the mint's actions make so little sense that even the bureaucratic mindset fails to explain them. The recent actions with the 2012-W proof ASE are a case in point. Wouldn't it have made way more sense to add a line to the product page saying "We are in the process of lowering the price of this product by $5 and providing the London fix remains below $28, on mm/dd/yyyy, the new price for this product will lower to $45.95. You are welcome to purchase at the current price if you desire to receive this product before the price change takes effect if you so desire." I am sure that they were afraid of mass returns if the price suddenly dropped but a simple heads up could have avoided that. What is so horribly bad about telling us what is going on?

They probably did have the letter already made. They know what theyre doing. Just like now they wont say yes its the S from the set incase any one thinks its different so theyll buy another one. Seems to be some shady folks making decisions there now a days

Anybody else see this article? http://www.coinworld.com/articles/e...ive-to-san-/Towards the bottom it states that there will be 50k notes available for this set, which leads one to believe that there will only be 50k of these sets. I haven't done research elsewhere to corroborate that but thought I'd throw it out there. Apologies if it's already been kicked around.

Great find Celtic hadnt seen that. At least theyre keeping it a low mintage. I wonder if theyre worried they wont sell with the immediate backlash they got.
I know it doesn't really make a difference but I wonder if the whole time the SF sets were on sale if the S eagle for this set was already minted sitting there waiting to be announced
