If that's true, that means that the mintage of the '12S will still be 300k or so, possibly a bit fewer. Not bad in the grand scheme of things... would still be the 4th lowest mintage of an ASE (behind '95W, '11S, '11P-RP)

The mintage being very acceptable really just makes all this worse to me. If theyd just been upfront that they were going to sell another 50k of the S it would be puzzling but not draw the outrage this has. How they went about it though makes their word worth nothing to me at this point. Even their response emails to people are flat out lies. So ill believe this is the last well see of this set when the year is over and they cant mint 2012 coins anymore

Quote: I know it doesn't really make a difference but I wonder if the whole time the SF sets were on sale if the S eagle for this set was already minted sitting there waiting to be announced Of course..the Mint admitted it was planned well in advance

Good point, Foxwoods. In my haste to post I forgot about those! So the '12S would be the fifth or possibly (but not likely) sixth lowest.

That's what I read, yeah. But according to the US Mint product page: Quote: Initial production of the Making American History Set is 50,000 sets. The established production limit for this product is no more than 100,000 units, based on the availability of the Series 2009 $5 notes that begin serialization with the number "150." Personally I hope they don't sell 50k.

So it sounds like theyre going to mint 50k then could do another if that sells out?
From a coin standpoint with how a lot of the SF sets are turning out seems to be a good number of flaws in a lot cant see anyone really wanting it for that reason

I'm a little torn on this set. Don't think I'll be buying but haven't really decided yet. At 73 bucks the set is $18 more than the individual W proof. Now of course you're getting a $5 note with it so more like $13. Some extra packaging.... eh. You could have another proof ASE that's one of the lowest mintages in ASE history. Meh. Clearly not thrilled. I'll probably just apply that money towards the next ATB puck.

I love the idea for the set I just dont like how this one was put together. If they did one that made more sense instead of a bill 2 or 3 years old and a recycled coin id be all over it.

Yeah, it rubs me the wrong way too, basebal21. I'll be paying attention to the sales figures.

$13 more for a coin that might have a final mintage of 350K is pretty appealing. The regular yearly proof ASE is going to end up in the 800-900K range again, so this set bears watching, as I think it'll be a winner as alot of collectors are really ticked off at the Mint right now. I'll be at the show this week so I'll see if the Mint's booth has any for sale or any of the dealers, otherwise I'll just head over to the gift shop at the Mint itself.

I know. That's why I'm torn... but I'm already getting 3 of them with the 2-coin SF set unless I cancel any of my orders.
Will be curious to see what you find out, Bizy.
