Just ordered 4 sets. Hoping for a LOW serial number like 15000000, or there about. I was only going to get one, but a friend wanted 2, so I did likewise. As was already stated, with a mintage of 351,000, 2012-S is still low.

mfhorn, Went to US Mint website and it says it starting with 150, not 15000000, unless I didn't read it right it would be 000000150,00000000152,000000153 and so on.....BEP had a $ 50 star note from Texas a few years ago, it started at 000000100, I got 00002454 and 00002525. Hope your wrong that wouldn't be a low number at 15000000....maybe you could give me some info on it...

Its just part of their 150th year celebration whenever that was supposed to be. But thats why theyre starting them all with that so 150000000 would be the first

Dang it, guys. Don't make me go and order one now just in the name of research. *sigh* So, the way it reads is that they will have a maximum of 100k $5 bills that start with "150". Since there are 8 digits in a 5-dollar bill these days, bills in this product would (as basebal mentioned) look like "150xxxxx", which gives us the 100k maximum (5 unique digits makes for 100,000 possible combinations). Again, I personally hope this product flops and keeps the 2012S proof under 300k. I still think this one will be a key date UNLESS the trend continues in the coming years and/or the Mint dilutes the market with dozens of ASE varieties annually. But even if it does, this wold be the first in the trend, hoarded, and probably hard to get. And of course that 2012RP will be a killer one to have. I still think the 2012 ASE set is a great one to have. This $1/$5 set... not so sure. Typing that it cracks me up a bit that the worthless piece of cotton paper has a face value of $5 while the $1 coin has 27 dollars' worth of silver in it but only would spend at a store for $1. Is someone secretly taking a jab at fiat currency with this set?

"Starting" means the first 3 numbers..."ending" would be the last three numbers . Actually they said "beginning with" Quote: The Series 2009 $5 note commemorates the Bureau of Engraving and Printing's 150 years of service with a serial number beginning with "150"

I saw a couple of sets at the US Mint's gift shop in Philly. The FRNs started with "150" but had high subsequent numbers. The coin is really good looking. I haven't opened my 2-coin set yet, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say these are the real first strike coins. The couple of sets I looked at are easy 69s or even 70s. The folder is large, colorful and attractively presented, just like the SSB souvenir folder. A real winner.
Edit: for clarity.

I'm getting the feeling we won't have to worry much about the s proof mintage with all the returns from the set happening

Quote: I saw a couple of sets at the gift shop in Philly. How would a gift shop have these sets in Philly, unless they are being sold at the Mint's gift shop? All of these sets should have originated from the fulfillment center in Indianapolis, to my way of thinking. Has anyone have an explanation here? I'm starting to smell a RAT.

For people who wants lower number on the bill, I believe you guys will be disappoint on it. I went to ANA show, saw the set, and the serial number is 1508xxxxxx. I asked the guy there, if the serial number could be lower. He told me "NO". I'm not sure if this is true, just what I heard from them.
