From 3 different banks, 2000 from each bank. One set of 2000 didn't contain anything except e few New Zealand coins.

The other two sets of 2000 contained 3 1972s each so all up I got 6 1972s.

There were foreign coins in there as well, 12 all up.

I was disappointed there weren't any 3pence or 6pence.

I was thinking of doing 20c coins next, as the 10c coins didn't get much love in my poll.

Question to you guys, is there any chance of finding pre-decimals amongst 5c, 10c or 20c coins?

From my experience, (and I have a lot with 5c pieces - I put together 50 x full circulated sets figuring if 5c piece gets scrapped, they might pop up in value and I got them all for face value anyways) - but back to the point
...
In finding 50 x 1972s, I found 2 x Sixpences.
If you want to work on 1 6p per every 25 1972s, then, on your numbers of 6 72's in 6000 coins (1:1000), then maybe 1 sixpence per 25,000 coins. Keep searching-

Wow that's a lot of coins to go through at once.
While noodling have found a threepence in 5c, and a florin in 20c bags.
he he I should say nope your not going to find any as I have already noodled them.

They are very few and far between but good luck anyway

I think I have between 40 and 50 1972 5c and I have found a few sixpence maybe 2 Aus. 1 NZ and 1 somewhere else (cook island?).
There are a few around, but not many.

I can only imagine how your eyes must be feeling after looking at 6000 of those coins...

Did you look out for double-headed 2007's ?
I'm still not convinced these 2007's are kosher, in that they could have been 'released' by employees of the mint - to a 3rd party, who then publicise the find, in order to give some cred. to the variety
Aren't the obverse/reverse dies totally different, so as not to be interchangeable?

I think a search through a decent sample of 20 cent coins may be a bit more rewarding than 5 cents'ers.

I have not seen any pre decimal coins in pocket change in 40 years.

I only took notice of old heads whilst searching. I didn't go through it all at once, but it doesn't take that long to go through 1000, It got easier as I found quicker ways. It helps to have a large table. I think I will do 20c coins next.

I have found a couple florins in 20c and probably 5 or 6 sixpences in 5c now. They are out there but I have noodled a huge number of coins to find them.

Does it matter if you go to an old or new bank?

Nope, security companies usually move around the money from place to place.
But if you have any old banks around, that are small and don't have many people taking out money there could be a chance of finding stuff.

I love trying banks in suburbs that are known for having an older population. Occasionally I snag something good.

Have found a few florins amongst 20c coins, mainly copper-nickel UK or nz but did find a silver australian florin once
I don't think it is worthwhile noodling to specifically find these types of coins. The thrill of finding something unexpectde more than mackes up for the hours spent searching through coins and finding nothing
Who knows, maybe there's a 1932 florin hiding somewhere in the bank vaults of australian banks (lol)

We got one sixpence out of a $100 lot of 5 cent coins about a month or so ago.
