Okay, for your grading pleasure here's an e-bay Ernie coin. I'm not sure what the small orange spot on the obverse is

Ken,
I think Ernie would do better with pictures instead of scans. Most of his coins look over graded to me.

As I just mentioned in another thread, Ernie is known for enthusiastic grading and pricing. I've never heard a single ill word about his honesty, though, and his ebay feedback bears witness to that integrity.

Having said all that, the porosity of the surfaces makes me a little nervous. I don't know the issue well enough to know if that's acceptable.

Never saw an Ernie coin that wasn't overgraded. What does he call this one? I think it has had something done to it to enhance it - maybe an acid dip and artifically retoned? There is some slight wear also. The surfaces don't look natural.

This was listed as AU.

I thought it was close enough and nabbed it on the cheap. The coin actually is more silver looking but my camera didn't pick it up. What caught my eye was the head definition. Though not a FH it has quite a bit of detail that is better than most SL's.

There is definitely wear on the right thigh and the obverse feather/wing wear is obvious so I put it at an AU-50.

Interestingly, it came with a 1929 XF that was definitely cleaned via some recent dipping and is closer to a VF30. I have no problem with ernie as long as the price reflects what I believe to be the grade(s) as was the case with this.

I tend to be a little negative where Ernie is concerned Ken. I just thought it looked too good to be true and the surfaces are too rough to be original in my opinion. Nevertheless for the right price it has some eye appeal.
