Hello all!
So earlier this week, papatony asked me if I search bags or rolls. I have ALWAYS wanted to search bags, but I just can't figure out how to get the bank to sell them to me! Now that he planted the seed....
I know there are some bank employees on these boards...
What is the secret?
Chase (my personal bank) gives me anything I want, but they don't have penny arcades, so this is where I get my customer wrapped rolls.
TD, where I have accounts as well, well I called about 15 locations today. Each one gave me a different answer as to why they cant. Which, if they all told me the same thing, I'd just say.. "OK, I guess it's not happening".
One branch went as far as to tell me, "The bags aren't counted... a third party does it" REALLY? Well then how does Penny know how much I dumped in huh?
I've tried the gifts, the gift cards, the donuts, the coffee...
I know some of you are getting them, what does it take? Your first born? LOL
I JUST WANT A DARN BAG!
Sorry for the rant of frustration...

It took me forever to find someone who would sell me a bag. I was just in the right place at the right time. Since then, I've only gotten to buy a couple, and those were hit or miss. 95% of the places I go to still won't sell them.

Is it TD that sold it to you?

No, it wasn't a bank; it was a supermarket.

There is one bank downtown near where I live that will give me any bag I want. They will even sell me a partial half dollar bag off the machine. No other bank will do it, though.

When I roll searched, my bank told me too, that they sent out their bags to be counted. The machines aren't perfect at the bank I guess. So, that could be true. They did let me buy them though. I never noticed a difference between the bags and rolls, besides finding a bunch of keys(actual keys, not key dates).

The counters are a bit off. I recently got a sealed bag with about $3 more than I paid. I never saw car keys, but I have seen guitar picks, brass tokens, and lots of pocket lint!

I get my boxes of halfs from the local credit union. One day they called me and asked if I wanted the bag from the counting machine. I took it of course. I did not have to ask ahead of time for it. I have since told them that I will take any of the bags they have. The only rule they told me was not to deposit the coins back to them. I've also been told that I am the only coin collector/searcher that they have asking for coins by the box or bag.

Based on the last 5 years of my roll hunting experiences, I've found that the banks are tired of the people that come back after purchasing bags, whining that the bag count is short. Other than that, it's really just hit or miss on buying bags, there is no majic involved.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72
