I have 2 silver dollars. 1...1883-O MS-65 and 1... 1886 MS-65 These 2 coins are in 3 inch by 3 inch Capitol Holders with seals on edges.....in boxes that have ARCG numbers and ACS numbers. Bought these many years ago and being told everything about these coins are subject to........many "things". What would you do to establish something known.... Could say I bought these before 1983 and possibly before that...just have no way of knowing now.... KGG

Can you post clear photos of both the slabs and close ups of the coins?

What I am trying to find out is..I have 2 coins both graded yet mean nothing to Coin World because they are not approved grading services. If these were your coins would you spend more money and have them re-graded...maybe trade them... take out of holders or sell them like they are in the present holders. Both of the coins are in sealed Capitol holders right now...in boxes that have information printed that say these are what they are....but I have no clue on what to do. So I am asking....what would you do? KGG

My apology....have no clues on how to post pictures. These coins are... 1 1883-O MS-65 and 1 1886 MS-65 Morgan silver dollars in Capitol Holders with seals on each end...in Boxes from American Rare Coin Galleries, Inc. 1992 North Jerusalem Road North Bellmore, NY. 11710 and 2 phone numbers. Found no listing for this company today other than a company in Florida...wrote to them and got a response from Stacks and Bowers...have no idea how that came about.....so that is why I ask these questions....slowly doing nothing until I know much more. It would depend on what kind of shape they are in. If its a big money coin I would send it to to be graded by top TPG. If theyre worth under 50 dollars for sure Id just break them out and sell them raw. 50-100 is kind of grey area for me

KGG PCGS and NGC are the two big two right now with PCGS slabs bringing a higher premium. ANACS is good too. Id stick with 1 of those 3

KGG the reason I asked about photos is that members here can give you an idea of what these coins might actually grade. IF they are MS-65, you can take them out or leave them in the holders. The person buying them will decide what they are when they see the coins. It sounds like you have coins slabbed by a coin dealer to try to get slabbed money for his raw coins. You do not have TPG graded coins.

Gentlemen...Thank you for your responses. These 2 coins are in holders. They are sealed. And I do believe they are MS-65. I only have 10 power magnifier but the are sharp and almost without any marks. I did a small search and believe that ANACS presents the best or more clear policy. Did not understand why no pricing or not one I could find but I am not all that skillful in my searches. My question now is...when I remove these coins from the boxes Yes they are sealed in Capitol Holders but no information is present...all of that information is printed on the box..... so would you send to ANACS without the boxes? If theres no markings on the holders you could send them in that if you wanted or remove them. But I wouldnt send in anything that says MS-65 according to some random person, they really just wont care what it says and may even just knock it down to a 64 to say they grade harder.
If they really are 65s theyre definitely worth reslabbing, 64 is still good value too. But would depend on what you paid for it. Id still reslabb if I thought they were either to make it easier to resell if you decide too.

Perfect answers for a guy like me.... These Capitol Holders have no anything on them other than the seals on each end. All information...other than what is on the actual Morgan dollars...is on the boxes. Just trying to get to the point where I can trade for coins I can place in my albums...but have to know what they are worth. Already have these 2 coins in very nice condition...at least MS-64 or better. My thought was if I break these 2 out..place them in my book then I still have 2 coins that are not graded in the ones I took out. All of these coins are very very close in grading to me. I was reading about all of these comments on VAM ? compared to VAM ? and it did not compute. Discover that later. KGG

Yea everyone will have their opinion on a grade but its so subjective people can just argue forever whether a 65 is a 65 or a 64 and some may think 66 ect. As far as I'm concerned I just like to use ball parks for coins till one of the 3 TPGs says a specific grade. Like low ms mid ms high ms anything more specific can just lead to never ending debates.
But if these are the only two youll want graded ANACS is probably youre best bet since they dont make you get a subscription to submit like PCGS and NGC. Should cost you probably 50 to have them both graded 60 max. I like its 15 dollars a coin for grading and you pay shipping both ways. The return shipping is usually a set fee but youll have control over how you want to ship it there and whether you want to insure it or not so the cost will vary. Might be a 5-8 dollar per order handling fee too, I know some have that never used ANACS though.
The other good thing is if it does happen to be a variety or something like that itll get graded as such and may get lucky and end up having something better than you thought

Making a long story short.... I had a friend that had a coin shop. I loaned him a large sum of cash in the early 80's....he said I could pick 2 coins as my initial interest payment. Picked these 2..have no idea whether these were a good pick or not...even today still do not know. Then he needed additional capital...traded 1000 oz. of bulk silver for 1000 Oz. of Art bars all .999 fine. Then it happened one more time this time he needed $5000 cash for his divorce settlement. He and I are even...still have about 1000 art bars and several coins for interest payments. But have been collecting coins for over 50 years. Now I want to complete my Morgan collection...trading seemed to be the way to go. This forum has been very helpful..Thank You KGG
