I'm not too sure but it seems that the Europeans have a different policy when it comes down to gold coins. Money changers in Europe actually do buy and sell gold coins at a small prenium, not just foreign currencies. Ageka is the only one who can tell us how it works there.

If these were real St Gaudens, some one would have figured this angle out a long time ago. It's not like there aren't any saavy collectors in Germany (take Ageka for example). Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kruegerrand are bullion coins. Their value is typically a small percentage over bullion value. We have to be talking about gold eagles here.

I have been asked to stay away from this forum for a while by a new moderator but I think I have to respond to this question Skinner those Double Eagles are real St Gaudens In Belgium you walk in and receive spot minus 1.5% at any exchange agent and he sels at spot plus 1.5 % the same day making 3% in a day The catch is that they are only allowed to do this for XF or better and they consider a jewellry piece supperpolished St Gaudens with all details and polished to a glow as XF This is a coin worn in a setting by a woman I have one like that which would be MS65 if it were not ultrasonically chemically shined to a gloss However when you try to sell it you will get melt minus 1.5 % if you are lucky or melt minus 5% which is the prise for a damaged coin

Ageka, it is good to see our goldmeister back! I understand things have been a little rough for you recently with the outside world, but we certainly missed you and hope you can return more frequently. (Actually, you would be welcome to return a LOT more frequently. ) With only gold coins bought/sold at 1.5% above melt, it looks like the strategy is to buy investment quality gold coins (XF or above, i.e. worth a LOT more than melt) from the bank, then resell them on the US collector market. The trick is one must educate oneself on gold coins (now there's a novel idea! ). Fred

I'm glad that you're back too Ageka! I've missed seeing your vast knowledge, especially in the Gold Market.
Morgan Fred: That's been my plan-of-action for about the last 6 months or so and so far it's working well...even with the drop in Gold this week!
Again, welcome back Ageka!!!!!!!!!!

@Metalman: It´s ok :).
@ageka: Do you have any experience in sending coins from Europe (or even Germany) to PCGS or NGC in the USA (especially it´s hard to find a insured shipping service for coins)? Unfortunately PCGS or NGC has no office in Europe/Germany :( . Thank you.

Ok you all I am overwelmed by your welcome On the investment forum I post I have obtained the ultimate status of being totally ignored (after all I am a eurozoner and they want to make dollars ) I have made coincommunity my top priority for when I have a free moment First a reply to a question that was pm'd but may interest many more Can I buy gold in Belgium and how You do NOT contact a bank but a MONEYEXCHANGER Buying at melt plus 1.5% is no problem I have sent many a guy from a German coinforum to the following two moneyexchangers http://www.eurogold.be/UK/main.htmhttp://www.gold4ex.be/servlet/javap...or_new&lg=nlNote that the second guy only buys Eagles he has enough English and American visitors that come once a month and buy his complete inventory .The few times I phoned him he was all sold out in anything old dollar eagle types Also note that the French roosters from 1906 and later are restrikes and do not count as true collector coins The real problem is hower how to get them to the USA without paying more for the postage then for the coin . And I do not know whether you would have to pay import tax of some sort . One thing is sure they will have either their own insurance or use Brinks or whatever. Ask for a quote but be prepared to fall of a chair I am trying to sell two 100 year old crucifixes on ebay for 19 euro and my good Belgian post wants 26 euro to ship them to France

I actually had a platinum coin sent from Belgium. It was a "good" deal except the postage costed like some 30 Euros and the dumb customs here charged me a painful 10% tax. Now that's nasty. Good thing platinum was 700usd/ounce when I bought it.

ageka,
I am not a gold collector, but have read most of your posts in the past and you have put out some great information. I am glad to see you back on the forum, I have missed your great critique of various items. Berry

https://goccf.com/t/12474#101019Skinner Sending coins from Europe to the US for slabbing has many difficulties Two years ago I looked into that First your bank bougth coins will come back either with the deathwarning CLEANED COIN or will come back in a "boddy bag" ungraded Or in the best case XF something Second to get past Euro customs twice you need to look up the codes you have to use for re-entry without tax one of the code is sent to the US for maintenance Third at the time DHL was asking 35 euro to get the coin to the US The grader was asking 30 euro and presuming the returnmail is 35 Euro you are at 105 euro which is 20% of the price of your coin which in Europe will not sell for more
