I am hoping someone here can help me with this problem.

I have a 430X speedlite that won't flash, the screen shows the ETTL Zoom 35mm

The pilot light doesn't light up and won't test flash. And it won't flash when attached to my camera.

I have tried 5 sets of new batteries, I even went and bought 2 different more sets at the store. Nothing has changed.

It worked fine then it all of a sudden stopped. I keep the flash in the case, which is inside a backpack tamrac case.

Any ideas?

I haven't tried that but will.

The contacts shouldn't be an issue unless the flash will test fire not attached, and won't fire attached.

I can't get the lens to fire or to test fire.

Let me go clean the contacts

Hi mechman, the camera flash is turned on. And the speedlite is not on slave. The lcd screen shows everything it should, just the pilot light doesn't come on and the flash will not fire

This can be maddening. My 430 was malfunctioning quite a bit and I made it worse by messing with the settings to try and get it to flash... It ended up being the contacts. But to find this out was a two step... Clean the contacts and then find my instruction manual to get the settings back to where they should (I am a non on flash)
