sense they are no longer minting the penny or whatever can you just go into a bank and ask for like a couple hundred in pennies because they are trying to get rid of them or liek what?

You will no doubt have to exchange money for them, they are not giving them away. Is this part of your get rich quick thing?

The penny will continue to be in circulation and I still go to get a case every so often. They just stopped making them.

I really hope that banks in Canada won't refuse to distribute pennies they have on hand once we get to September. I think they won't be able to order them anymore. But it will really be terrible if they also refuse to recirculate the returns to other customers.

I will not be surprised to see the percent of copper in circulation drop dramatically towards the end of the 2012 calendar year. Which is sad because my Canadian penny collection is hurting.

Wade, I've read that on this forum somewhere as well. The last I read was it will be in February now. Not sure howw true it is. I was always under the impression that they were just not making them anymore and can still use them until they're gone.

Yep, it's true, Double J. As of February the Canadian banks will begin to pull the pennies from circulation. I think the penny will still be around for the next few years, but in fewer and fewer quantities, until the average joe mistakenly falls under the assumption that each and every one he sees is worth a fortune and begins to hoard what's left -- and that'll put the kibosh on pennies in your pocket change for good, at least here in Canada.
