HI! This is my favorite website as an avid coin collector. I have come here daily ever since I found the CCF. For my first post, I would really love to hear opinions on this 1982 LMC that is silver in color, way lighter than a normal penny (I don't hav ea coin scale), does NOT stick to a magnet. I found it CRHing a year ago. I also have a pic (left) of a coin I recently found CRHing, also LMC, that I believe is off-center. I know the pics are really bad, but it's the best I can do. And what's the value of this coin? THANKS! Edited by coinmaniac1 07/25/2012 5:30 pm

coinmaniac! I think it's safe to speak for the gang that, without a better photo I'm afraid no one will be able to help What year is the coin on the left? If it is older and you found it, it may be cleaned looks so blurry but it looks like it has that "I've been cleaned luster". Also in 82, without a weight, to know if its zinc or copper, you probably won't be able to do much detective work. There is a thread here somewhere, that teaches you how to make a balance scale. As for value. I think it's safe to say they are worth face value.

In 1982 the mint started making 'zincolns' and they do not look the same as the copper coins. The photo makes the coin look like it is a light copper color and I believe that is normal for a zinc cent. A better photo would help but I think you have a normal cent.

Cool! But even from the blurry photos, I can tell you that the one in the flip isn't an "abnormal" color. But at least now you've got two 82's to weigh against each other, now get a 84-date and an 09-81 so you know you have a zinc and a copper to compare LOL
And if you get an 83 that matches weight to a 09-81.... Post it immediately HAHAHA

New Pics. It honestly looks silver in color. Like a 90% silver dime, quarter, etc. just a slightly different shade. It looks nothing like post 82 cents and feels way lighter than a 1943 steel cent. Although it looks identical to a reprocessed steelie or MS steelie.

I believe it to be plated.

CM1, it could have been plated by someone after it came out of the mint. I have a 1978 gold(ish) plated dime that I found in circulation years ago. Never had it tested because it's just a curiosity and I'm not getting rid of it anytime soon.

I would agree-that was my first hunch. But it is clearly waaaay lighter than any of our cents. I realized it weighs similar to foreign aluminum coins. That's what really confuses me. I really wish I had a scale.

What is the weight of the coin? I agree with it looking like it was plated after mint.
