Hey all, picked up a 1922 Peace dollar today and was wondering what the you guys think the grade is. I'm new to coin collecting and this forum, so please forgive me for the terrible pictures. I will try to retake them if you cannot determine the grade from them.

Welcome to the community!! We will definitely need better pics for an accurate grade.

Quote: I'm new to coin collecting and this forum Peace dollars are heavily counterfeited. The experts will see this soon enough and authenticate you. You are better off taking it out of the holder, lay it on an all cotton towel, use latex or cotton cots, hold it by the sides, take some straight, head on shots of the obverse and reverse and sit back and wait for the love...it will come...

to the ccf Alred13. It's not possible to offer an educated opinion on grade or authenticity based on your photos ... I can say the coin shows evidence of circulation wear ... so it is not mint state. We can help support you better if you follow the wise advise given by dsfreeworld ... take the coin out of the holder and post some clear straight on photos. David

Sorry all, I've been having a difficult time getting a good clear pic. I took the coin out of the holder and tried to get a better one. Not sure how much better these ones are, if these don't work I'll try to figure something else out. Also, I know it's generally not a good idea to clean coins, but it looks like there is a spec of dirt near the word "peace" on the reverse. Should I try cleaning that off?

Your coin gas already been cleaned and is a common-date, "bullion" coin. Remove whatever dirt with a wooden tooth-pick. I'd guess this coin has AU details.

How can you tell it's been cleaned? Does this affect it's value much?

The color, flat looking luster and light scratches indicate cleaning. It is a common bullion coin so very little loss of value.

your tied to spot price on silver with what I imagine is some level of numismatic value added on.

You can always get spot but ebay value will be much higher if you wanna sell it. If you're gonna keep it, I wouldnt worry about it being cleaned.
