Hi, I am new to these boards, I have been collecting commemorative coins from the US Mint for the past couple of years, and I think I found an error coin. I opened at coin roll that I got from the bank and found this coin. If it is a error, what is the error called? Thanks for any help! Image: chippedcoin1.jpg58.14 KB

Hi Ruth if you download the pic to a place like photobucket which lets you download larger pics and then post it into your post they will automatically resize here. photobucket is fast to join and free check it out here ! http://photobucket.com/Once you gain 50 posts on the forum one of the perks is your very own photo gallery which works essentially the same way as photobucket only its right here on the forum !! If you still have problems let me know and I will get an email address to you where you can send larger images and I will post them up for you. Metalman

Hi ruth, Like metalman said, we are going to need bigger pics to correctly identify what you have.
But what it looks like from the pictures is that the coin got chipped from a rolling machine, which would be considered post mint damage.
But without bigger pics we cant tell for sure!

I tried to fix the pic a bit ,, but I could not improve it much,,
But I did get a little better look at it ,, and it appears to be post mint damage. probably from a counting / sorting machine like Lax was talking about.

Thanks - bummer :( was hoping I found something good! I have noticed several of my coins have extra letters on the outside that can be seen with a magnifying glass. 1 has a extra I, One an extra T. Is it an error if you need a glass to see it well? I promise not to bug you anymore (well, at least until tomorrow!) LOL

Looks like the coin was ground down. Might have been stuck inside a counting machine - something...but not a mint error.
