Zinc rot is a common problem with post 1982 pennies. There have been many posted here that are zinc rot. Possible you could post a better pic here?
Rest in Peace

A clearer picture would help but with the other damage that I see on the coin I would guess that it is PMD if if isn't zinc rot. The break in the 9 is odd.

...and coin dealers are very often the LEAST knowledgeable people in mint errors. Most of them couldn't recognize an error from a hole in the ground.

Your coin is damaged from a bubble that formed around exposed zinc. These are exceedingly common on cents dated 1983-1988 because of hand-punched mintmarks and plating quality issues.

You should quit getting error advice from dealers.

LOL it's not zinc rot. I'm working on getting a better photo. It's a 'D', not zinc rot (unless zinc rot mysteriously forms as a 'D') LOL! I'll post the final results as soon as I get them... : )

Just so you know. One of the top error/variety experts in the world on US coins commented on your coin as well as a few knowledgeable and well respected forum members. I wouldn't LOL at their comments/expertise cause pretty much in the end you will be LOL'd at...it IS a zinc bubble.

P.S...im starting to wonder if this is a serious post because in the title you say 1976D...then you correct it to 1986D...but the coin is clearly 1985D...have you been drinking on Grandpa's Old Cough Syrup?
