Yesterday was a great day for me. This is a long (winded) post. If you just want coin details you can skip to the last paragraph.

As some of you know, I've been dealing with dump location issues. I had another bank cut me off completely a couple weeks ago. So I began inquiring about a regional bank with several location. Applied online and asked many questions to make sure this place would work. They charge 1% for customers but assure me I will never have issues dumping. I decide I can live with the fee. I ask if they have a coin arcade or just give the lose coin to the teller. They said its the typical set up (in my region) where you give the coin to the teller for counting.

So yesterday I walk in to a branch of this bank I've never been to and to my surprise, I'm ushered over to a coin counter. I'm standing in line behind a guy and notice a container with a few odd coins setting on a table next to the machine. I know from reading here that some locations will put a container there for various coins that hit the reject tray. The guy in front of me fills a bag and a teller comes to help. She pulls out additional coin from the reject tray and starts to put them in the container. The guy stops her and says those are his and he wants them. I notice they are Mexican coins. She mentions he can put them 'over there' if he doesn't want them. I'm just keeping my mouth shut cause I want the coins in that container. He keeps his Mexican coins but doesn't mess with the container.

Finally the guy finishes and its my turn. The lady stays because she can clearly see she will need to change bags for me. I throw some coin in and get it started. I decide to go ahead and grab the coins from the container and take a look. I can feel this teller staring at me as I look. Its mostly canadian clad but one coin is obviously old. I take a quick look and see 'United States' and '1864'. My heart starts pounding but this girl is looking at me and for some reason I fear she's going to ask for the coin. I just place it in my pocket. I finally finish and get out to the car where I can really take a look. Its a 1864 2 cent piece in really decent condition . I'm still pumped...

Very awesome!

I usually check the reject slot on my local coinstar machines, but never found anything close to that cool! Congrats!

Yeah, I saw that last night. I'm pretty confident that it's large unfortunately. But hey, I'm not complaining. I'll try to get a picture up this evening.

Oh yeah. I'm going there this afternoon to make a small dump, just so I can check the rejects.

I do kind of feel guilty though. With it being one of the only coin machines where someone can go anonymously (near the bad part of town), I feel like people are probably dumping stolen property at this bank. Why else would a 1864 2 cent coin end up at a machine...I hate that. I truly wish I could get this coin to the previous owner. Probably means a lot more to him than me. But I also realize that if I don't take them, someone else will.

I've finally got around to uploading some pictures of my recent finds. I should have taken this out of the 2x2 for better pics but these will have to do for now.
