Today I finished my first roll hunting adventure. Definitely addicting hehe. I only started with 10 dollars in pennies because I had had a mixed lot of other denominations but those werent nearly as fun. Might have been fun if I had found some silver maybe. Worth the effort but not much to report. Here are the stats: 10$US of Pennies: 658 - Normal. 266 - Less then 1982 non wheat coppers. Not bad in my opinion. 23 - 82 coppers. 18 - 82/83 normal. 10 to 15 - Wheat (I didnt count the first few wasnt paying attention before I stored them with the past finds.) 14 - ruined, (cant read date, cant see face, scraped to hokey and back, but I collect these so these are really bad ones :D) 5 - Canadian pennies (1 proofish). 3 "cool" ones by my standards though maybe no one else s. Just neat effects which I may post later, like one of them had some kind of chemical burn that made it look like Lincoln was wearing a black/green sweater lol. 1 toned 82 copper (I think. Still learning what stuff means.) Looks cool though. 1 - 1949 still shiny! Wheat cent. Just sharing.. but always love comments. Since its my first run and I had a blast I definitely say with this kind of turn out I'll do it again. Maybe do 25$US next time. But now I gotta re roll em and turn em back in somewhere else lol. No, I'm not looking for errors and varieties. I found that too overwhelming. Too many things to look for couldnt keep it all straight in my head. I tried using an eye loupe I used for rock collecting years ago and found it too hard to focus on the coin and move around enough to look at different areas. I tried using a magnifying glass as well and found I couldnt keep the focal length right to get a good feel of the entire coin and the different close up parts all at the same time in my head.
I may get into it later though but right now I'm just having fun doing this.

Those are really good finds, if you are keeping copper pennies, definitely keep the canadian coins.

I collect canadian coins because I find it amusing they slip in with our stuff so easily for being so similar. I'll coin flip the good ones atleast and probably keep the ok and less in my pile oh random canadian. :)

As long as you have fun, nothing else matters.

I average between 2 and 3 wheats per $5 (I have a statistics app on my phone that I use) So for $10, 4-6. The fact that you got 10-15 is really good! I separate my wheats too. Use this list: http://coins.about.com/library/US-c...t-Values.htmI separate the ones said to be "$0.03" and anything higher. Basically older ones are more valuable.

Well its nice to have a common interest with people. I like it when people compliment my results/decisions/finds/etc. Its nice to share the fun with people and find a common ground. Just collecting for the sake of collecting is a rather ego-centric task in my opinion though if thats what people like thats their prerogative, I dont judge. :)

I do have fun collecting the wheats. Even though its nothing special about what I am doing besides the manual labor its fun to have something thats 'going out of style' hehe because you know their not being produced anymore, you know their being horded, their also being lost. If you find a high quality one and protect it its gunna go up in value especially if you plan on still being a collector 10 years from now or more.
Coppers are fun because of the 'ooh I paid a cent for 2.25cents worth of... cents. :) Plus its a great excuse to just plain stockpile something of value.
