not a coin- a medal or some other sort of exomumia- the boxes have an Indian script- numbers, probably. The other text is also Indian. The other side does not register with me at all. The minting-diecutting techniques were used in the 60`s, and later.

I'd definitely go with Indian and quite possibly Hindu. There are a few references in Hindu mythology to three-headed snakes (Ahi and Vritra).

The squares have numbers in them, written in Indian numerals. They are magic squares, where all the rows and columns add up to the same number; they have ritual significance in Hinduism.

This is definitely Indian. The symbols and script are usually used in the horoscope. Shani, Raahu and Ketu are shown on one side. Other side is some magic square. I do not know the significance of this token. But it is relly interesting to hear that it was found in the river beds of Mississippi. Thanks for sharing it.

Maybe someone threw it into the river as part of some religious offering or something?

Xavierofgreen, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe part of a religious or quisi-religious rite.
