Romanus III. 1028-1034 AD. Class B anonymous follis, 1028-1034 AD. Constantinople. IC-XC to right and left of bust of Christ facing with nimbate cross behind head, square in each limb of nimbus cross, holding book of gospels, a dot in center of dotted square on book / IS-XS BAS-ILE BAS-ILE to left and right above and below cross on three steps. SB 1823. AE Follis, 31.81mm, 10.6g This coin also has scratches on the reverse. Pretty sure those were done in ancient times. A big thanks to jessvc for the basic attribution. This coin is oval shaped, hence the wide measurement. For the reverse side of the coin, I've seen a couple different translations for it. Jesus Christ, King of Kings, or Jesus Christ Emperor of Emperors. Which one is closer, I don't know. This is my second Byzantine coin.

I think you could bring out Christ's face with some minor cleaning if you're up to it!

Interesting coin Also, you might want to take a closer look at those green spots; they look like BD

Quote: I think you could bring out Christ's face with some minor cleaning if you're up to it! I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the coin just yet. The coin might have BD. Also, the patina is very thin in some areas, including the face. The face is too worn down to have very fine details, not just covered in dirt. There are also areas with metal showing. I don't want to stick it in water because it could alter the sand patina appearance. Unless anyone has good ideas? The BD has to be treated for sure. As many know, the more details the face has the more expensive they are. So, I went for a compromise, decent details as much as possible around the face and bust. I'm still primarily collecting Roman Imperial coins. I decided to get other coins for more variety in my collection. I have two Byzantine, 1 Islamic, 1 Roman Provincial, 1 Judean. I will try to obtain other regions as I continue to collect over time.
