Since about 9.9 of every 10 posts is on a penny of some sort, maybe we need a forum simply for them. Just a thought.

Cents are the most popular numismatic series collected. So...the most common for collectors as well.

The problem is, wheat cents shouldn't really belong in the "modern" forum in the first place. I mean, seriously, Buffalo nickels, Mercury dimes, SLQs, Walker halves and even Peace dollars are all "classic". Yet all of them are from the 1910s or later - while wheat cents were first minted in 1909. Admittedly this forum is mostly LMCs anyway. I was more talking about the main Modern US coins forum and, much more so, the Modern US Coin Grading one (which is indeed mostly wheats).

People are welcome to post other varieties...they just don't..not sure what a special cent forum would accomplish ?

A special cent forum would get the posts more focused and make finding the posts on other coin types easier. Maybe as another member pointed out, the proper place to be putting older halves, dimes, etc is under classic and not modern. Was just a thought.

Understandable that are lots of posts are about pennies.
They are, for most American collectors, the cheapest and funnest way to collect coins. You can have a lifetime of fun, without necessarily having ANY fabulously expensive coins. The result of all of this, is that there is a huge amount of friendly camerarderie amongst penny collectors.
I don't collect pennies, because I don't have the access to them that Americans have. I collect ancient coins. Not to worry. There is an equally huge amount of fun to be had collecting and attributing late Roman Bronzes. Nice coins from 300 AD can be had for as little as $5 each. That's the ancient version of penny collecting.

Maybe I will start getting dime rolls from the bank. My savings will grow for sure. I try to stick to the pennies because I have obtained so much information on them and am still learning. I couldnt imagine collecting all denominations quite yet.

My problem is finding the time to start searching through all my cents. I have most separated into years so I guess I am just gonna have to find the time & start checking them out. Any suggestions as to which year to start with (2011 back to the 19teens)?

Is this topic about categorization or roll searching, because you know, there is a section devoted to all things coin roll hunting here. Just sayin! Stick around, feel the site out, and you will be able to navigate easily. I think the way it is sorted is great, and you will too.
