How common is a Lamination peel on an Indian Head? What causes the peel to occur?

Laminations are fairly common on IHCs and early wheaties and it is caused by an internal flaw/impurity in the alloy.

It's an 1887. Runs from about 3:00-6:00 on the reverse. Goes along the bottom side of the wreath and over the middle & bottom arrowheads. The lamination on the arrowhead itself is doubled- back over itself. The remainder is of the peel is best seen when the coin is held flat, looking almost from the side/edge of the coin.

Robbudo--yours is really dramatic! I especially like how it goes through the date.

rubbudo, what file do you save your pictures in to get them so big? Tried in jpeg and this equaled the 100k size

Right under 'Upload Image', click on 'Free Image Optimizer'. No clue how it works, but it produces pictures like the one I uploaded!
I don't see a lamination on your coin, rather some die cracks and/or retained die breaks.

Thanks, I'll try that next time. As I said, unless you view the coin from the side and under magnification, you can't see it
