Is this common. This coin is 180 degrees. If I do a normal top to bottom flip it is upside down.

Yes, examples of the 1864 2 cent with 180 degree rotation(medal alignment) are known. I would not really call them common but there are enough out there that it only garners a modest premium for something that is rather unusual in most cases. I picked one up from my local shop's bid board a few months ago, no one else bothered to notice the rotation so I ended up winning it for under $10

i would call these common. rotated die census lists the 1864 2cent piece with dies rotated between 90 and 180 degrees as an R1, with over 1000 pieces estimated to exist. common but still cool.

This was a chance I took due to a terrible picture so it was a great price. The die rotation was a bonus! Thanks guys!

Coincidentally, is 30 degree rotation common? I've seen an 1864 2 cent piece offered in a coin shop (for approximately $30) that has an obvious repaired hole above the motto but a 30 degree or so rotation. Condition (grade) similar to the one in the OP. Should I buy it? It's the only 2 cent piece I've seen offered in a coin shop so far, so I really want it for my collection, but the repaired hole kind of put me off.

avoid the holed/plugged 2-cent piece, it shouldn't be more than $5.

Thanks! I'll see if I find any others within $100. Unfortunately, I'd probably rather pay $30 for that one than $100+ for a completely normal 1864 2c
Then again, someone out here has a slabbed MS silver 3c (don't remember any specifics unfortunately) for around $300, so maybe I should take that one? (Well when I find so much money anyway... I mean, I'd really prefer my 19th-century types in the F-XF range because they're supposed to be cheaper that way - but I just couldn't find any...)

Yes, I am, and yes, it's fairly hard.
Heck, I tried in vain to find any Buffalo nickels anywhere for over a year, then a month ago I find a shop with a full page of them I chose the cheapest non-common partial date by the way (as far as I can tell it's a '27-D, and it cost me less than a dollar - apparently the dealer thought it was dateless).
Either way, it being over a year since I started to search, I do have a nice little collection of US coins... it's almost all listed here actually except for the buffalo and an 1943-S War Nickel which I both acquired later (and no, I didn't get that package, unfortunately).
