Hello Everyone,

I have several of these and I was wondering are all of the 1974 Brown Ikes prone to toning? I was in a coin store in my area and I noticed that all of them were toned. I ended up buying one. I would say its nice in my opinon. Did any of the brown Ikes come with COA's?

Yes, kind of. What did the toning look like? On the silver proof Ikes, a lot of the time it's more of a haze, often with a bluish cast.

PS: I don't remember them coming with a COA.

The toning on the 1974 Dollar is on both sides of the coin. It circles all around the upper part of the coin.

I have hears the brown Ikes are prone to a hazy toning. I have a 1974 myself, also with a hazy tone to it. I have contemplated removing it from the holder, in order to stop any further toning.

Seems like they should. They were called Brown Ikes because the card board packaging was brown--to simulate wood. Card board contains sulfur.

Hello,

Does anyone think that these coins carry a premium because of the fact that the coins are still in the government holders?

Not in this case unless it exibits a superior Bullseye effect with Irradescent color's otherwise the hazing is a white'ish Grey that is common on alot of them infact as far as I know there is a slight Premium for the ones that are not showing tonining of this type. But I could be wrong

Seeing as how I'm a coin collector, and not a package collector, the haze on the Ike would not impress me one bit. In fact, it would make me pass on such a coin and go for something more appealing to the eye.
As longnine said, the packaging had sulfer in its content, so this would be something I would immediately remove to prevent any further damage to the coin.

Old Dan,

I took your advise and pulled the Eisenhower out of the package. I hope this will either eliminate or slow down the toning.
Rest in Peace

The mint didn't start putting COA's in with their products until 1986.
