Just curious if the D mintmark is as scarce on the East Coast, as the P's are here on the West Coast...Hard to find a plain date here.

I lived in Maine when I grew up, and we almost never saw reasonably new coins that had "D" mints. Once coins were several years old or more it seemed that there were more D's. My guess is they had circulated better across the country by that point.

I live in a big tourist area so I can find a D from time to time but all of the new coins released are all P. Philly is only 2 hours away.

I live in CT and can safely say D mints are not common sites for new coins. I once saved 15 new Statehood Quarters from pocket change only got 2 D's

Wow, do you all need D's in pretty new condition? I bought a couple of rolls of the 2006D's last year, still unopened from the mint, and almost every penny, coin I see are all D's. That's what most all of my error pennies are. Let me know if anyone wants D's - not a problem...

Okay - who wants what - got gazollopns of the all here, darn near nothing but. Most of the 8 pounds of pre 1082 copper are D' (about 2/3) - almost ALL of my errors, as I said are D's - Seriously, if there are any dates you want, error or not, let me know and I will send them to you. No big deal, just let me know what dates.

I see some D's mostly P's but even more rare were the S minted coins. I can find an old worn out 1974's penny only worth a penny and I will hoard it every time just because We do not see them

Everything I get here I PA are P's as stated hardly see any D if I do they are old and have been around.
I usually get my D mints from the mint in un-circulated mint sets.\
Until I just recently found this message base I have not even been able to find anyone to trade mints with.

I am serious - if anyone wants D mint marks, tell me what years you want, pay for the mailing, and face value of the coin, and I'll send it/them. It would be my pleasure to help out those who have helped me...(by your knowledge)

Just to prove how rare a D mint coin is, I just recently finished my circulated Roosevelt collection by finding a 1975 D. I have been working on this for 7 years and last week I finally finished it.

Scout. all the S mint marks after 1974 are proof coins and the S before 74 are circulation coins. but not all. the mint also made proof coins at the San Fran Mint after 1967. but before that the proofs were struck in Philly. so if you are looking for S circulation coins after 74 you wont find any. I live about 10 miles outside of Philadelphia. I do come across D's in change but most of the time the coins are older dates.

The one place on the east coast where I have seen more D mint marks than usual, is in the casinos of Atlantic City.
