Most price guides list 64R but not 64RB. So how much should a RB be discounted from a Red. Also, when sending in a large cent for grading to PCGS or ICCS, one may get you a higher grade but a lower color designation, but the other will be stricter on the grade but more generous on the color. Which is more important to you? ie.what would you rather...63RD or 64RB?

Personally I go with the number first and the comment second. So I would go with the 64RB. But I'll pay a bit closer to list price for an RD than an RB.

Personally I would put the value of a 63 Red and a 64 RB at about the same level. But I would not buy the 64 RB unless it was a rare variety and I couldn't find a red one after quite a long search.

Speaking strictly about Victorian cents, since that is the series I know best, I think it is far from true that ICCS will be stricter on grade, at least for the mint state grades we are discussing. IMO, for any mint state Canadian copper graded in the last three years, PCGS will be more conservative on both the number and the color designation than ICCS. In my mind, the answer on value of mint state copper depends upon the specific coin. Is the red brown coin 90% red, or 50% red? Is the coin barely a 64, or almost a 65? Does the coin have eye appeal, or not? Is the coin a condition rarity? If you can learn to answer these questions yourself, rather than relying on the TPG, it does not matter much whose holder it resides in, or what number and color designation they put on it.

bosox pretty much echos what my opinion is on this topic....

I would also agree with Bosox on this. If a recent PCGS holder says red, it probably is. If a recent ICCS holder says red, you need to decide for yourself. It's best if you can call it yourself regardless of the holder.
