Not happening. There's not even any evidence. It does look kind of silvery and not as grey as cupronickel is gneerally but nobody will drop $600 for that without evidence. I doubt it'd be worth close to that if it were real anyway.

Looks like $400 if it were in perfect condition, which it's not... http://minterrornews.com/priceguideoffmetal.html

Says in the listing it's graded by NGC. They're usually pretty good at these sort of things.

@jokingjoker I saw that too, but it looks like a standard cardboard holder... Hard to tell actually. I didn't know that was normal. I thought they used their own holders.

and look at this

http://homepage.mac.com/snumismatic...333_3233.jpg

that's what the "auction" links to.... Click on the "this is a certified" mumbo-jumbo yourself. Even if it is really it's more than 50% overpriced with no wiggle room and will be there a while.

For those who don't know, homepage.mac.com is a hosting service for mac users...yeah....

I have only seen a few of these type coins, from what I see here
it look likes the others I have seen. And how the seller states
that marks/scratches on the planchet, marks do not get pressed out when
you have such a difference in thickness.

I also think it is in a Slab .. but do wish he would have posted a picture of the label.

You could be right that he is a little high. But years ago I was in a
auction, bidding on a cent on a dime planchet. I had dropped out
but it sold for $700

It is no doubt genuine, ngc graded. It may be a little high, but not ridiculous and his pictures don't show up, probably because he hasn't sold coins for more than a year now, except for a short period early this year or late last year. His auctions don't even pop up in ebay searches anymore...how'd you get a link to this one? The only way I'm able to see some of his auctions is to get them through my watch list on ebay.
He is a higly respected error collector and dealer and I believe he is also an author. Nothing wrong with this old auction in my opinion.

I'd also like to add that the pictures that don't come up do have pictures of the ngc label, as I remember all of his auctions used to. Although there is a line above his auctions saying he will be gone until such and such date, this date keeps moving farther and farther out.
I've purchased multiple items from this seller and have had no problem and find him to be a more than helpful and informative seller.
You cannot claim that a seller is not willing to bend prices a little bit as not all sellers use the 'make an offer' button, and will more than gladly work with you if you contact them through ebay's messaging system.
I don't think that this old auction warrants any insults or name calling and I don't think it's appropriate.

Fixed my OP to remove the foolish statements. Nevertheless that price is quite for that type of error and without any apparent flexibility, that's why it hasn't sold yet.

Here you go. (Sullivan's pic)
$600-For-This?!

And this auction hasn't been live for months. That's why it hasn't sold (at least that we know of).

I believe as of June the Dot Mac (iDisk) service no longer support webdav functionality, so that's why the link is broken from the image link. A error coin collector maybe willing to pay for that specific coin to add to his/her collection. Price guides as we know is just that, and price changes intermittently.

Edit: No more iDisk are more like it from Apple!

@ErrorCoins222 We know the auction failed, the ebay attempt isn't any better.

Coin looks real to me. But for me I would rather spend my coin budjet on older classic coins

It doesn't look very round to me, I thought maybe a hacksaw and file job. Having seen it in the slab I bow to others greater knowledge as I know that I am not so clued up on error coins from the USA.

It says that the seller is "away" at the moment...(in the UK when people say they are "away" it is the nice way to say "in prison"... how very reassuring!

I love the classic cois. If I had a lot of money though, I would probably buy something like this.
