Someone listed these on ebay for 4.99 each, so I bought both. Poor old gal looks like a hooker. They will need a bath. These will go straight into the acetone when they arrive. I am not a fan of painted coins, but 13.50 for 2 morgans (delivered) ... I'll make an exception. Chance Edited by Chancellor Sutler 08/07/2012 8:02 pm

You got a bargain. Acetone should bring these old girls back to life.

I think you may find these are not actually "painted" at all and just have a sticker applied to them that makes them look painted. I have seen them before with the stickers applied to them but either way acetone should help get both off. I am interested in which these are though once you receive them (painted or sticker applied) if you don't mind

I bought a 1996 ASE like this before for cheap ... and it had the "rub on" decal like you're talking about. They come right off with acetone. I'll let you know, but I suspect you're right. Either way ... the graffiti has to go. Chance

Hopefully those are real coins. For that price, almost a bit scarry. Let us know when you get them.

Nothing to fear ... ebay's buyer protection covers fraud. I'm confident they'll be real. They're a bit outside the seller's area of expertise. Once they arrive ... they've been shipped from New Mexico ... I'll take some pics and post them here. Chance

you got a great deal long as they are real. I have seen a few painted Morgans that were fakes. And I agree she would look better as a Blonde.

I actually think it's a lovely design, but it doesn't belong on a silver coin. Save the designs for non-numismatic coins.

I'm sceptical that they are real. Update us after you receive them and check them out.

These were packaged and sold by the US Commemorative Gallery ... and I have found links to 2 dealers that I have bought legitimate coins from offering the same coins ... but up to 50 bucks a shot. Twin Cities Gold and howardsdirect, both ebay sellers, and both who know coins well enough to spot the copies. These have been scanned through the last scan point that they'll encounter before arriving at my post office. I'll probably get them tomorrow, saturday. Everything this seller has came from the same outfit, basically a company that sells pocket change in slick display cases for 1000 times what its worth. You can buy a 1921 Morgan dollar from them now ... not colorized, for just 99 dollars. These companies skin ittle old ladies out of their social security checks. Keep ya posted. Oh ... I forgot to add .... the ones I saw at howardsdirect were definitely decals. The images were large enough that you could see the dot matrix. I am sure these aren't painted...but have stickers on them. I have a half a gallon of acetone on hand, so they won't last long. Chance

I think they are real. Makes sense that if they were choosing a stencil, 1921 would be the best choice. There were a LOT minted and a lot exist in high grades. I wouldn't use the price as any indicator of their authenticity. When bought originally, I'm sure someone paid MUCH more than they were worth. They just changed hands later for much less.
