I just received my SF Anniversary Silver Eagles and they are bought gorgeous (neither would make PF-70, but that is not what I was really going for anyway). I have to say I am extremely angry and a little upset at the person who packaged my set. I was looking at the coins and flipped over the holder and my normal proof coin fell out of the capsule and onto my carpet floor. and . Luckily, without too much effort I saved it with cotton gloves and put it back in the capsule. Both capsules were loose. So as a word of warning, before you pick you coins up make sure the capsules are pressed tightly shut

On the bright side at least you were standing inside when it happened. Sometimes I cant wait and open them on the hood of my car. The driveway would not be a safe place for them to land

Glad it turned out OK, but seriously what the heck is wrong with people these days.

That is saddening. I don't know what is wrong with people anymore.

I ordered 3 of the 25th ASE sets and had similar issues. Capsules were loose, but none of them ever actually popped open on me. But they had come out of their holders in the box and who knows how much they banged around in there during shipping. Phooey.

Hey Baseball, when I got my proof eagle (on the SF ones) they fell out of the capsule and onto the carpet in front of my dogs. One of them got their nose on the coin. Still trying to get their nostril prints off the coin. (I have three dogs and each got a turn at it.) I wouldn't have minded their breath on the coin but did they have to memorialize the event with their noses. As if I don't have enough nose art around my house.

that's hilarious, ghostrider. I mean, I do feel bad for you but it's a funny story. :)

ghost, at least they didnt get into their mouths. LOL Mine would have been licking it. The capsule thing has been going on forever. I have a few of the 99 SBA proofs I got from my dad. They hadnt been looked at since he got them. Guess what? The capsules were loose. All of my 5 ouncers, capsules loose. Heck, I cant think of a single capsuled item I have received from the mint where the capsules were tight.

For the amount paid for the coins and the customer they are selling to, I would think a QC step would be included in each transaction.

Mine were fine on delivery. I on the other hand cannot seem to open the capsules from my 3 coin proof set 1776-1976. I was going to put them in my 7070 but could not remove them from their housing. I guess I will buy an uncirculated set, that plastic will cut easier.

I haven't received the 2012 set yet, but I had a similar experience with the 2011 anniversary set. I took one set to work to show co-workers. One of them took the tray and turned it over before I could tell him to be careful and a couple fell out onto the desk. One coin did pop out of the capsule, bounced off the desk and I caught it in my bare hand. Thank God it was the 2011 W proof and not the reverse proof or S uncirc. I bought another W proof just in case this one tarnishes because of this incident.

I had no problems with my ASE set, I'm generally pretty careful when handling my coins. But I'm going to check later on to make sure the capsules are tight. As for the dog nose prints, it sucks but its worse when they're shedding. Imagine getting dog hairs on the shiny coin.

I have not received my 2012 S sets yet, but one of the coins in the 25th anniversary set last year (I don't remember which one) fell out of the plastic case also. No harm done in my case. It fell into the felt inside the case. I guess we all have to be careful when examining these for the first time.

Right, perfessor. No sense tearing into the coins like six-year-olds on Christmas morning.
Wait a minute... who am I kidding?!
