My wife's from Quebec, born in 1967 - and I just recently decided to do a birth year set for her. My knowledge of Canadian coins is zero. What should I know about this coin before trying to purchase one?

Don't pay over spot price for one. It may take some looking, but yu should be able to find one for that.

Just over half an ounce of 90% gold.
With gold at $1600 ,$780-$840 would be a decent price.Popular item, rarely sell at BV($750) in Canada.
The entire '67 specimen set can usually be had for a few dollars more than the gold coin alone, would make a nice gift.

For a gold proof coin that can be had for not much above spot, it would make a mighty fine acquisition.

It is quite a handsome coin.

There are enough of them around for you to be picky.

When you find one with which you are satisfied, put it in a screw capsule, so everybody can handle it and appreciate it. Probably worth housing the capsule in a ex single proof coin box.

Correction DBM.........

There's just over half an ounce of PURE gold in a 1967 $20 Canadian gold coin.

52.85% of an ounce of pure gold to be exact.

At $1600 an ounce, you'll pay at a very minimum $845 for this coin.

If it's a nice coin expect to pay an additional $20 to $40.

Thanks, everyone! With a mintage of 337,688, .5288 Troy, and in proof only it'll be a fun hunt. One complete 1967 proof set just sold for $820 - about what I thought the $20 piece alone should go for.

$820 for the complete set is a great price!

If I had the dough, I'd buy all the '67 sets I could for $820.

I have always enjoyed the look of these coins and even watched a few on the bay but never pulled the trigger.
