I'm not sure what prof sets started being popular enough to make complete sets. you might have to buy it in pieces

I have to say .. I have read your post a few times .. and I am not sure what you are looking for. Please be more specific. What years do you want sets for. For example proof sets for 1936 1958 1963 Also you should know that Proof sets from 1968 and up are "s" mint marks for the years 1965, 1966 and 1967 there are special mint sets only ( no mint marks) For the years 1964 and earlier there are proof sets made in Philadelphia ( no mint marks) also prior to 1950 .. not all years had full sets issued

Quote: I have to say .. I have read your post a few times .. and I am not sure what you are looking for. Please be more specific. Sort of what I just went through. I can guess you are looking to buy or make complete Proof sets for certain dates. If you look in the Red Book, they state the first Proof set is 1936. 1950 and 1953 are the only ones you may be able to buy as is and those would be well into the hundreds of dollars. To put together any of the other sets would cost a real lot and may not even be possible. Then your post gets a bit confusing with the we want the P, D, S mints too. I think you should purchase a copy of the Red Book by Whitman Publishing and look at the pages that list Proof and/or Mint sets. Then too, wander through the book for individtual Proofs with dates like your looking for. Then the worst part. Finding them for sale.

Sibling : One of two or more individuals having the same parents or sometimes only one parent in common. Did you mean mom, dad, 6 kids (children), me and my kids (children)? Just curious.

If you want to make/buy sets for the 6 dates you mentioned you have some problems, and you need alot of money:
*I'm assuming MS-60 prices for UNC coins. You asked for proofs and if no proofs available, UNC coins. *I'm assuming you don't care about mint marks/origins for the 1922 and 1928 coins, so I take the coin with the lowest price.
1922: -No mint or proof sets made, so you need to find the 6 coins you want and make your own set. -In this year, only the penny and dollar were made (nickel, dime, quarter, half were not minted that year). - You cannot make a 6 piece set, only a two piece with the penny and dollar. To get both coins in MS-60 will cost about $120.
1928: -No mint or proof sets made, so you need to find the 6 coins you want and make your own set. -All 6 coins were minted, but to make the cheapest set will cost you over $1300. The half dollar was only minted with the S mark, and is alone about $1000 of your desired set cost.
1948: -No proof set made, only a mint set. -Mint set will cost you up to $800.
1949: -No proof set made, only a mint set. -Mint set will cost you up to $1000
1950: -Proof set only. -Proof set will cost you up to $600.
1953: - Both proof and mint sets were made. - Proof set will cost about $200 while the mint set will cost more (about $550-$600).
You would have to check the mint and proof sets to see if your 6 desired coins are in them, because I don't remember what they contain.
If you want to cobble sets together in lower grades you can do that and save a lot of money, but you cannot make a 1922 set because of the 4 coins not minted. You will however be able to pick that 1928S half dollar for a cheap price in lower grades.
If I made any errors in this analysis, hopefully someone here will correct me.
Hope this helps.
