It looks like the die was partially plugged or over polished.

Hi noah

I'm not sure what it's actually worth -- I've got a nickel that has no beads or denticles at all, on either side, at least until you hold it up to the light and then see the faint spots where they should be, and I picked it up for only just over $5. That said, quarters are worth more, so may command a bit of a premium. I may be wrong on this but I don't think that this variety is overly valuable, so I figure that it's maxed out about where it is. Just one man's opinion, but I hope it helps.

I PAID 40.00 FOR IT, receiveD IT TODAY A PROOF COIN WITH ABOUT HALF THE BEADS MISSING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE QUARTER. HAS TO BE A PLUGGED DIE ON BOTH DIES.

1998 proofs are silver with cameo,looks like a nickel quarter in the ebay listing.

I am sure the coin is either a PL or a business strike - not a proof. Hard to be see in the ebay pictures but I am leaning towards dialog_gvb reply: strike through grease. If John100 can get a clearer picture of the area we can be more precise.

A die plug on such extensive area and affecting both dies simultaneously would be something!
