The '19-D is a great find. The '23-S is a good find from bargain box too, an underrated date. Most of the '20s branch mints are better dates.

'31-D is common in G-F or in MS64FB or better. It basically doesn't exist in XF-AU; I had to break down and get a slabbed MS64FB because I couldn't find one for my XF-AU set. Couldn't even find an MS63. '30-S and '31-S are right behind it in mintage and are possibly underrated.

I've been trying to grab all the mint marked 20's and teens I can find(that are decent). Figured I'd fill up the older dates, then work on the 30s and 40s(40s are pretty easy to get nice ones)
I wasent too excited with the 19d until I got feedback on here about it, Now I'm stoked! :) That 30s is the 7th lowest mintage of the series!

Your doing fantastic. Almost everywhere today Mercury dimes are in the $3 and up, up, up. At $2.50, eacy, your doing fantastic. Amazing that about 5 to 10 years ago, I could get as mamy as I wanted for about $1. Not a chance today.
Your doing great. Why not ask that guy if you could make him a deal and buy all he has. Might set you back a bit, but never can tell, he might just do that.

52Raymo, where in OR are you? Roseburg area here.
I'd love to buy all he has, but I cant afford that LoL I'll just pick through, he lets me go through whatever new stuff he gets, and most all is at 2.50 each. I heard there is another pawn shop in the area with a 16d...Would be nice if its legit! Heard how crafty some counterfeiters get with that one.

I was able to buy about $2.50 around 2008-2010, now is at least $3 for each and the grades are no better than F for common teens through thirties. I recently bought 2 bags of AU/MS merc dimes in the forties for $2.50 each in the ANA world money fair.

While everyone in the PM forum is stacking ASE or bars and the likes, I am stacking AU/MS merc dimes.

A '31-S in VF for $2.50 is GREAT. Keep diggin' in that box, it's a good-un.

And the bonus, CG, is that by going through "junk" boxes you get a feel
for what is easily available and what requires a purchase.
You will have to buy the big three at a later point, but for the time being
the education and fun of a lunch hour hunt is ok in my book.
And by concentrating on those dates earlier than 1934 you are doing this right.
Later dates will be a breeze.

Yeah I'm holding off on the late 30's and 40's unless they are MS plus for cheap.
He does have a 31d for 8 bucks, I think I'm going to pick that one up next week. Spent over my weekly quota already.
