I am pondering selling some of my collection to be able to pursue my gun hobby. Question I have is this: If I decide to sell off all of my Modern Commemoratives and most of my ASE collection( and no I am not selling my 2011 set! lol) what would be the best way to sell? I HATE E-Bay and I kinda dread trying to sell 50+ coins individually. So,does anyone think I would have any luck selling all my ASE's as a bulk sale and the same with the commemoratives, or what? Thanks! Ken

Well here's the dilemma you'll be face. I assume you want the most money you can get for them. If you sell it as a bulk lot it'll be easier but you may be able to get more money parting it out. Its a lot easier for someone to pay 70 a coin then pay like 2000 for a set so your price per coin could go down. The one advantage to the bulk lot would be if you sold on ebay. There's a max fee they'll take for any 1 sale so depending on the math you may save a little in fees as a bulk lot. You can also try coin shops but it'll be hit or miss on prices. I would ask around coin shops for prices and then see what you could get on ebay and see what gets you more. I had some extra commems I sold not to long ago one shop offered me 120 where they only viewed them as bullion while another offered me 340 since they dealt in those and had the customer base. You could try selling here too. There's also cl but that's asking to get robbed with an inventory like that and I would be very weary of it. My best advice would be shop it around until you find a price you like and if ebay would bring the most, which I think it might, you then have to decide if the extra money from that is worth the effort and not having the quick sale. For the commems get in touch with david lawerence coins they know a shop in chesapeake va that deals in them they got me in touch with which is where I got my better offer on mine.

You will realize more money by selling individually, but you need to weigh the time v. cost v. final sale price.

Surely there are many of us on this forum that go to estate sales and buy collections in bulk because the people selling don't want to be bothered to wait for each coin to sell individually. If you decide to sell your collection in bulk and hate E-bay, one of us will give you a fair price and then we'll most likely sell most of them on E-bay individually at a profit.

Unfortunately I do not have but a couple of coin shops close by and I buy from them often,so I know they offer a small premium above spot for ASE's and just spot for common commemoratives. I know as a bulk buy I may do pretty well with the ASE's but I might have to suck it up and sell the rest individually on E-Bay, ugggg. But, before that I may try on here first, I may do a smidge better.

It just depends on how fast you want to sell. The more patient you can be the better price youll get. Nows not a good time to be selling with a lot of families taking vacations in august and back to school shopping ect.

My local gun store takes gold and silver in trade. Talk to your local gun dealer or pawn shop and see if you can work a deal that both of you are happy with.

I would be willing to buy 2 or 3 off of ya. I dont have any...but for price, yer not gonna make much off of me...especially when I can buy from a dealer at a good price. Thats always the problem with selling bullion here. Most on here are educated on the value and where to get a good deal and have made their contacts, trying to get a large % over spot from someone here is hard unless you have a coin of numi value

Pending on where you live there could be some problems. Not sure by you but guns are becoming something that is being closely monitored. Even so called collectables. Partially due to those school shootings, terrorists, increases in home invasions and store robberies. As you collect guns legally, they are exceptionally cataloged in Federal Systems. IF you have acculated a certain amount that is recorded, you WILL be more closely watched. This could effect your income, deductions, friends, etc. Yes a gun collection is nice, even some are fantastic, but if I were you I'd sort of stick to coins. Or at least stop mentioning selling coins for guns. I wonder if there is a hand grenade forum here somewhere? I've always wanted a recoiless rifle for the front of my car. Imagine if they are monitoring this forum. Look into coin shows for sales of any coins. You just might become a coin dealer there.

One suggestion would be to list the coins that you have for sale and forum members could private message you to try and set up some sort of deal that would benefit each of you. I know that from time to time I have purchase from members on other forums and I do stary away from ebay like the plague I don't think that this would be against the rules of the forum. If so a moderator could jump in. I know that I am in the market for many items. Of course, any such transactions would be without the blessing and possible consent of the board as a whole. If you do decide to go this route you could email for consideration. Again this would be off forum topic.

And one more thing to consider. You really don't know who is who on the internet. You could be making deals with a Federal Agent to trade coins for guns. So be carefull. Not sure but I don't think I've ever met a Federal Agent at a coin show.
