I don't think these actually circulated.
They are listed in Krause as a 'medallic' issue.

I have seen one of these in gold, the price not a huge amount above the bullion value.

I have a silver example in VF, and I acquired that one for around the bullion value at the time. This coin is much nicer than mine.

thanks sel691 ! I'd like to get it but having some reservations as the price (being a medalion only) is at twice the bulion value. the saving grace is that it's in brilliant unc.
still undecided

Not a coin but a medal. No idea why a Krause catalog would list such a piece. The designer, Karl Goetz, had many of his medals minted by the Munich mint (hence the "D" mintmark). He created many medals, including lots of nasty propaganda pieces, but he never designed a German coin. By the way, a 5 RM coin at that time would have been Ag 500, Ø 36 mm.

This was a fund raising medal used to pay off President Hindenburg's debts and give him his family estate back free and clear. There is a similar pattern 5 mark that looks very similar but it has the denomination on it. I was never able to convince KP's SCWC editor of that even when I was there.
