Most of the HJB coins came in these cointain. And I inquired about them. They said its safe for long term storage too. I wanted to get some feedback from others as I'll really like to use them if they are safe. Image: cointain.jpg5.49 KB

I have used these holders and find them to be perfect for use when handling a coin is about to happen. Example: I place a coin in the holder when I'm going to be giving it to anyone. They in turn handle it and then either leave it in the holder or put the coin into something more permenate. So for short term, they are great and they do keep from haveing to handle the coin raw.

I wondered how these would work for coin albums? For protection from the slide in a Dansco for instance?

Tbar, That's exactly what I'm thinking. I posted in another thread about my concern regarding the type set album and I think this is the answer for me. If you check this link, it says that these contains are PVC free and that lot of museums and ANA money museum uses them. http://www.money.org/Content/Naviga.../default.htmI'm going to store my type set in these before transfering them to the album.

I've been using them to create custom type sets and really like them. I don't know if they'll fit in album slots but they definetly fit into pockets. Here's an excerpt from an e-mail that someone asked how I create my typesets:
" Hi Steve,... Dansco Coin Stock Album with Slipcase This is actually a combination of products that I use. I start with a Dansco Coin Stock Album and slipcase because I like the look, (it's basically a Dansco album with pvc free 2x2 pocket pages) for about $23. I then purchase a sheet of 2"x2" White Laser Printer Flip Inserts (available at Brent Krueger for $3) to create my own labels and insert them into each pocket. Finally, I encase each coin in a kointains capsule (approximately 120 coins ran $60) and I slide them into each pocket. This is my personal favorite as I can create my own labels and expand the set as I see fit and it looks professional thanks to my trusty laser printer. So basically this ran me about $83."

They absolutely do NOT fit into Dansco or Whitman albums. Even if you used a sledge hammer, they will not fit. Some of the Whitman album slots are barely large enoug for the coin itself. Those things are great if you want to preserve a coin, allow people to handle a coin, want something that still looks like a coin, fits into a 2x2. But if you want to put the coin in an album you'll end up taking those off and throwing them away meaning you wasted money. I've ended up dumping way to many since I put most coins in albums.

I've received a handful of coins in those things, but I was rather unimpressed with them. A bit too flimsy for my taste. I believe AirTites make a much better storage solution for coins.

You're right, I tried it out yesterday and it doesn't fit the album. So much for my happiness.

Shatsi, those things might fit in a regular 2x2. Maybe try that, then get the Dansco 7000 Coin Stock Book. It has non-PVC pages with slots for 2x2s to fit into. Might be a good solution for you.

I've had coins come in cointains, but have never used them myself. I find 2x2 archival safe mylar flips to be best.

Are you going to use this for long or short term storage?

I have received quite a few coin in these holders to sell. These seem to be ideal for proof coins. The proof coins that I received in these holders show no hazing or problems at all. They are very durable, also. The only problem with them is getting them off. We have to remove the coins from these holders for photographing because uncirculated coins in these holders show up in pics like they've been cleaned...there is no visible luster at all because of the plastic. Keep in mind that, if you use these, be sure not to touch the inside of the holder at all. These holders seal very well and your finger oils will fester in there and create a terrible mess...

Thanks for tips. Yes I'll be using them long term. I too had a hard time removing the coin from these holders.
