I cant help but wonder if that is somehow from the Tsunami washing things up on shore.

A Tsunami isn't going to wash gold bars up on shore. They are too dense. It was found back in April, so if there were more (i.e. from a crate), another one would have been found by now. More likely an element of an illegal transaction, hence no claim of ownership after 4 months.

Not the bar itself but its washed up many other things that do float that the bar could have gotten on too. Theres really no way to say it would have never been there with the massive carnage anything could have ended up on anything

Um, it was found on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. No tsunamis have occurred anywhere near there recently, nor has any debris from either the Japanese or Indian Ocean tsunamis been found washed up there either. Storms and shipwrecks, yes, floods further up the coast, yes, but no tsunamis.
It doesn't say how the woman who found it, found it. Was she using a metal detector or was it just lying on the surface? If it was on the surface it had to have been lost recently, as it would sink further and further into the sand the longer it stayed there.
We are, of course, assuming it was found on the sandy beach itself. Forresters Beach has some rocky shoreline as well as normal sandy beach; it could have been found amongst the rocks.

That answers that. For some reason I read Wyong as Wyoming which did seem odd.

I hope she gets to keep it. Good for her for going through the right channels and turning it in. Can't say that I would have :)

Funny you should say that; there's a suburb of Gosford called Wyoming, only about 10 kilometres west of the beach where the gold was found. It's actually much closer as the crow flies to the beach than Wyong, which is some 15 km north, though steep ravines between the two places mean there is no direct road between them. I had an overnight stop in Wyoming while on my 2009 road trip and took some pictures:

If that was me and saw that sign I'd be looking for that annual Rodio they used to have in our place. Odd when I was in Wyoming I thought a great place for a steak. Wrong. Lousy food. As to that Gold bar laying on the sand or in it. I suspect that the real details are hidden. To many nuts out there that would claim it if all the info was given out. Might not even have been found on a beach. Possibly found almost anywhere but exact details left out or sort of twisted so as to find the real owner.

WOW!! I'm going to the beach! Now why don't I have that kind of luck? But good for her, that's an amazing find, I really hope she gets to keep it! Who would loose something like that? Ya, she really deserves to keep it, if whomever owned LOST it they don't deserve it, lol. Again, wow..

Looks like a nice quaint place.

If I had found the first one you'd never have heard of neither the find or the story. To paraphase a WWII saying "Loose lips loses gold" or "the walls have ears".
Where did I get the gold from? Been in the family for a long time. I've never been to - what was the name of the beach again? Never heard of it. You sure it's real. Gee officer are you pulling my leg. Gwan now.............. ya kiddah..............
EDIT: What better way to legally launder gold than to say that you found it on the beach.
