I am going to need to photograph some coins so the lovely folks here can help me.

I have a Nikon Coolpix, its just a point and shoot, but I thought there might be some settings that would make a better pix.

Thanks in advance

I am not the best at this subject, but this is what I remember from my "trial and error" days, and mainly what I have gathered here in the CCF Coin Photography threads;

Adjust the "White Balance", "Macro" setting, no flash, a camera stand or tripod, use the timer, (I have heard that the Jansjo Lamps are the ones to get) and read to your hearts content the other threads in photography. Just about any question you could come up with has been asked at least once, but it doesn't hurt to ask again.

And one more thing; the three "P's"...practice, persistence and patience.

And show us your handiwork as you progress!

look for the macro setting - possibly has a symbol of a flower. when using that feature, you cannot zoom in to far, but you should be able to get the camera very close.

Also try to get a lot of light on the coin, you likely wont be able to use the camera flash (a white LED is good.)

At the risk of seeming like I'm blowing my own horn, start here:

I wrote that 4-1/2 years ago, but much is still relevant.

I also have this type of camera. One key thing is to have good lighting.

I have this camera too. I press the w-t bar to zoom in and I use a loupe on the lens. For just a general pic I use a loupe without zooming in. Good luck It took me a bit to get it right
