I'll say ms-64 or 65, it is a beautiful coin. Where did you find that beauty at?

WOW I can only dream of owning a seated liberty half dollar in that good of a grade. Your half dollar makes my 1876 half dollar look like I picked it up off of the street. NICE COIN. Eric

shatsi, good eye. Although you cannot see them in the pictures, under 10X,there are some very fine lines in the fields of the coin where it has been lightly cleaned. To bad really, considering the strike of the coin. The only wear I can see at all in on two of the stars that have light rub marks on them.other that that it would have MS details. I would have to list this as AU58 details "cleaned". Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

TLS, absolutely beautiful coin. If that's AU58 and lightly cleaned, I think I will start looking for those grading details and buying everything I see...

I agree that it may have been cleaned. but I would have guessed expertly dipped as the method. On the other hand where is the wear that makes it an AU? It looks better than that to me. I see no wear areas that would indicate this coin ever circulated. Technically speaking does any uncirculated coin that has been cleaned automatically take it out of the Mint State designation? Anyway I would like to meet the dummy who thought he could improve it by cleaning it.

tights, Yep,I agree but the problem is when you find coins like this, usually an unscrupulous dealer has put it in a generic slab and labled it MS63+. When I found this one I knew what I was buying and paid accourdingly. It is a beauty, cleaned or not. Terry

And I agree with you Terry. For the right price I could sure over look the cleaning. Don't you wonder what it looked like before - I am imagining some beautiful toning and a nice tan patina.

colin, I just can't imagine cleaning a coin with this strike. It would have been worth so much more left in the original state and sent to one of the grading companies. Like I said, the only wear I can find is rub marks on a couple of the stars.I believe this would keep it out of MS grade. Terry
