Hi All, Just wanted to see where you would buy coins for your collection. I know common sources such as ebay, HA, coin shows, estate sales, local coin shops. Where else would you buy coins from ?

I buy my coins once yearly from a coin/ antique shop out by my grandmas in upstate NY. I have yet to buy from ebay, or go to a coin show. Next time one rolls around, though...

I don't have the patience like you :) I am easily tempted to buy browsing the ebay etc.. Only thing that keep me not buying more there is just because I am a newbie

My collection has been derived from just about every source you can think of, except ebay. Two reasons for this: I have been building the collection for over 35 years, the beginning of which ebay had not even been thought of, and I really like to see every coin in hand before making a decision to buy.

I've been an antique dealer for many years and about 5 months ago I decided to deal in coins. I've bought some from auctions, some from dealers I know, at antique fairs and boot fairs. As for ebay, I've bought 4 lots over the past two weeks. Three lots were coins and one was banknotes. I was really pleased with the coins. Even got a freebie thrown in with one lot I bought. Not so pleased with the banknotes though. I find with banknotes on ebay you can't really see the condition if they are worn. Whereas with coins, you can see a lot better. I think I will be using ebay a lot. You just have to make sure the seller has been on ebay for some time and has really good feedback. I also think it pays to buy from a good seller you have bought from before. But at the end of the day I think it has to be your gut feeling. If you think it is right, and you have done the usual checking, then it probably is ok. Sheen

Did you want specific locations like names of stores, inc, etc...? Is that allowed moderators? I used to be a dedicated ebay collector, but I have branched out into a few other locations that I found on http://www.collectorscorner.com/ There are numerous dealers who list some of their items there and have links to their actual sites as well. * Hint: I have found out that if you deal with the dealer directly, they can come down on their "asking price" (sometimes quite a bit) instead of having to pay the other website a fee for every coin they sell through their front. And they do have World Coins as well...I just noticed that this was in a thread that I usually don't visit much.
