Thanks mkman123, The last three I posted in this forum in the past and some expert members including the Maha Guru (in Indonesian, Indian and Sanskrit language means Great Teacher in respect) swamperbob already take a look. Besides, two local experts was looking at it and confirmed. The first one I got from a reputable dealer in Newport Beach, CA, I am sure is not fake.

I'm not an expert with Italian coins but they are known for lots of fakes especially gold. For some reason, it doesn't look right to me. I repeat - I am not an expert so I can be completely wrong. It could just be the photograph that makes it look a bit distorted.

It might be the photo, but I do not see any nicks or wear in the fields of the 1749 8R, other than the chop and a few bubbles on the pillar side, quite odd. However if the Ponterios passed it that is good enough for me.

Just came back from Ponterio. The Gold coin is FAKE. It is like Sovereign, many people fake them because it makes easier to buy and sell as "standard" of the coin market. I use to help my dad to select thousands of Sovereigns on one sitting when I was young, take a break for lunch and back to work again. But I really couldn't tell the good and the fake. I just looking for the better grades for him. The fake coin will go back to the seller in Newport Beach!

Westwood Arms, I just want to let you know that particular 1749 is going to PCGS, and Ponterio going to auction it on November 1, 2012. I also post this information under Mexicana topic.
Regarding Sovereign and other popular gold coins, I still don't know how to detect fakes. They are made same way the original coins, the copy must be off a little. For trained eyes, they probably know where to spot the mistakes. I would like to learn. They are available abundantly in Indonesia. Literary you could buy them off the street, in every jewelry store. I also wonder if the real one carry premium. I am sure I could return it, since I know the seller "quite well", what disappointing me that he crossed my trust. May be he didn't know either, since this is a jewelry store, not selling or specialized in coins.
