I work in a smelter for the mines

I know several people that are working in the mining industry in Qld.,and investing in Coins. One is an Electrician I used to play a lot of Golf with and is earning $2000+ a week and spending a lot of his spare time on his laptop buying coins.

I'm semi-retired with a varied(boring)background,5 years on Honeywell Mainframes in the 1970's to running a 24hr Roadhouse for 15 years.Started collecting coins as a schoolkid in the 1960's and have ebbed & flowed with the hobby ever since.

I managed a Coles supermarket through uni.

I got Bachelor of Communications & Media (Awarded with distinction), Bachelor of Arts (Awarded with distinction), then did my Honours in labour history. I then had a brief foray into higher retail management, being an Area Manager at a competing supermarket. It was the worst, so I went back and did my Masters of Education (Awarded with distinction) - topped the cohort, got a dean's medal and a few other industry achievements, and have just finished my first year as English / History teacher.

I love History, and I love coins.
My Year 11 class call me supernerd.

I exchanged contracts for my house last week, with settlement in December. I can't wait to get back into buying more coins and notes. Saving for a deposit killed me!!

My house was built in the 1890s, it just occurred to me I might find some treasures under the floorboards!

I am a lecturer to University Honours degree students.
Prior to that I had worked in the outback in various roles - surveying, the mining industry etc.
With this background I like to think that I can blend the theoretical with the practical in my teaching.

I have always enjoyed history, and have been coin collecting since I was a boy. One memorable occasion was when my dad gave me a "Cartwheel Penny" that he found in the Botanical Gardens in Sydney.

Thanks loverr.
Yes, I like my job very much. Took me decades to find it though ...

I will retrieve the old "Australian Colonial" Cartwheel Penny from out of my collection and post a pic soon

Hi trout1105 .
I don't think you are "one of the odd ones out".
We are all interested in coins and/or banknotes.
In this context, how we "earn our crust" is of secondary importance, methinks .

I own an air freight forwarding company (20 years old in October) and organise all of the air freight for Christmas and Cocos Keeling Islands. Been a bit busy the last four years or so. I play golf one day a week and call it "retiring by stealth". Aiming for two days a week by the end of the year. Past lives were mechanic (7 years) futures broker (7 years) and professional storyteller (7 years) so the freight has broken the cycle.

I would consider that your past experience fits in perfectly with what you are doing now

I'm working my way back down the career path.

Currently I work part time in a not-for-profit org that finds volunteers for other not-for-profits orps. And in my spare time I've been curating an art exhib that opens next weekend.

In my past I have been webcontent officer, public relations officer, and cultural development project officer for local council. In my other lives I have also been a RAAF officer, high school teacher, art critic, freelance journalist, and public servant at all three levels of government, and education officer at an art gallery, amongst other careers ...
