I have finished a Dansco 8113, all ms (Jefferson). Got a couple of questions. 1. Why are there no holes for proofs prior to 1971? 2. Why no hole for the 1979 proof?
I have added a separate page for other proofs; only lack the 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 50 and 51.
Thanks!

None of the books have proof spaces prior to 68. My guess is that they only included the proof years when they were made at San Fran. If memory serves, from 68-70 both pennies and nickels were business strikes from San Fran as well as proofs. Not sure why they didnt just put an S slot and a proof slot though.

Space maybe? Who knows, if your going to have proofs in the album they should include them all unless some are extremely rare. At the very least offer some extra pages that can be bought for those who wish to have them included

IMO - As it says on the front of the album "Including proof only issues"
To me that means, when there is a year and mint mark that only a proof coin was issued, then it will have it's own slot. For example, for the 1977 S Jefferson there was only a proof made, no business strike, so it will have it's own slot.
There are some years, when the same mint makes both a business strike and proof coin, it is up to each collector to decide which coin to put in that slot.

Dansco draws the 'line' on proofs at "PROOF ONLY" issues. So, if there was a business strike and a proof made, they only have a hole for the business strike.

Therein lies the reason I don't like albums. Well the lack of holes for proofs and that they tend to tone the coins over time. I will say that they are a great way to track your collection. I use a spread sheet that I still can't read...sometimes.

Yes I agree they should have slots for all the issues but they make more money when you buy more pages or different albums. Remember Money Talks and BS Walks.

Not only do they leave out many items most would consider important to making a 'complete' collection, but they also add some that are not needed.
Such as overdates, double dies, overmints, and even varieties that stem from low quality strikes, like the 22 plain, which is just a celebration of low quality, not even a true 'error' or variety.

I forgot to add, I simply put proofs in the S slots instead of the business strikes back to 54.
