Chile used escudos up to the mid-19th century, and then from 1961 to 1975.
So I think your note is of that period, with Manuel Bulnes, president of Chile between 1841 and 1851 pictured.

The signature combination, Series A and six digit serial number would date yours 1964 to 1967.

Thanks people. Another one down a couple more to go. Can't beat CCF! A quick reference Quote: It was also during the presidency of Bulnes that the former colonial power, Spain, acknowledged the independence of Chile and became involved in the construction of Chile's first railway. Looks like he was one of the Good Guys.

I guess it all depends on your point of view.
I think the Spanish authorities saw him as a terrorist, and nowadays his massacres of the Arucanian Indians might be considered genocide.

Interestingly enough, this whole subject is rife with political imagery and slogans etc. It seems to me nearly every ruler/leader/dictator/national entity/whoever uses the space on their notes and coins to enhance their images and/or claims.

There's a long tradition of using medallions for political propaganda and statements in South America, at least in Bolivia, Chile, Peru. The catalogue of Jules Fonrobert's collection contained a lot of examples. I'm not sure this link will work for examples, but let me try: http://www.mcsearch.info/search.htm...milar:250388These medallions or presentation coins are spectacular and well worth collecting if you get the opportunity and have the budget, however I have seen fakes, so be careful.
