These are the first images taken with my new digital microscope. With intuitive software and a solid design my only difficulty is with minimizing reflections and chatter caused by the LEDs. Tilting the scope diverts some of the noise. I'd appreciate any tips from folks who use these scopes to photograph their coins.

This cent has an attractive luster that punctuates a subtle toning. See if this assortment of test images can lead you to a grade. Thanks

Would this be a high nine? I'm thinking yes.

Sure looks like it. Could we have a shot of the date like you've done for ONE and CENT?

As for the photos, shooting through encapsulation is usually trickier than shooting a raw coin. You may have to get creative with your light setup. The downside to angling the coin under a microscope is that the very shallow depth of focus renders half the photo (or more) out of focus. There is a ton of material in the Coin Photography forum related to digital microscopes as well as general shooting of slabbed coins using many different setups. You'll definitely get more attention regarding photography in that forum.

Beautiful penny!

The responses are most appreciated. Here is a shot of the date (pardon the reflections). A friend of mine did comment on the nine being a "High 9" but we didn't get around to discussing it further.

LB, you've articulated very well my challenges with coin photography. Thanks for your input.

I had a USB microscope for a while. What I found helpful sometimes was turning off the LED lights on the microscope and using another light source. First, get the coin into focus, then move the light source around to get the best lighting and minimizing the glare and reflections.

As usual a coin always looks better in hand. Even though this looks like AU, my grade guess is MS62

It sure looks like a 'high' 9 to me, nice coin.
