Quote: Whenever there's a plastic bag left on the counter, that's always a good sign. Ah, that does seem to be correct. Now I am going to be looking for stray bags around the machine.

I only have two Coinstars nearby. Most often they're a bust. The Wallyworld is next to Customer service and bathrooms, too high traffic to get anything there. Same in grocery store...unless I can catch it right after a customer dump. Did this yesterday, was in checkout lane, timing just right. Sauntered over to claim $1.65, all current US coins, only one nasty zincoln, don.t know why these were passed, nothing wrong with them. I checked when I came in so not a days worth.

Found these a few days ago. Pretty average except for the 1969 Canadian 25 cents. Only one year off from potential silver.

I stopped at the grocery yesterday and checked the machine. There was nothing in the return but in the loading tray the hinged part had a dozen or more coins jammed in it. I was able to pull a quarter out but the rest could only be pushed in. The screen said the system was in error state so I couldn't recover anything else.
I just wonder what went in unpaid...
Also today I went to the post office and mailed something. The clerk saw me look at the coins in my change and thought maybe she miscounted. I told her I was a collector and was looking for anything weird. She then opened her drawer and said I could have her "junk pile" and she gave me about a dozen corroded pennies, a couple discolored nickels, one being bent, and a pile of Canadian dimes and nickels. I offered to reimburse for them and she said not to worry about it, they probably would have been trashed. I kept the Canadians, all from the 70's, and after checking the rest I tossed the corroded coins in the chum jar. If they don't make it through CoinStar when I cash in someone else can find them.

Quote: Whenever there's a plastic bag left on the counter, that's always a good sign. Good advice! I was at my local supermarket this morning. The Coinstar reject tray was empty, but someone had left a plastic bag on the machine. I shook it and a 2016 5p fell out - free money!

I checked a local Coinstar today and found a couple Zincolns in the top tray. While doing that, my wife was looking at the dog tag machine right next to it, checking out options. Only because of this did I spot something on the floor against the wall underneath a cable between the two machines that I would have otherwise missed. It turned out to be my first non-North America find! It's also the only Euro anything I have now. Edit: a little odd for being post #1776.

Kevin, my lottery has 2nd chance drawings on some of their non winning scratch off tickets and I will fish them out of trash cans to enter them in. I don't care what anybody thinks either, because, everyone would do it if they knew they had a winning entry.

Nothing special, they are pretty worn but still finds. 1943 walking liberty, 1964 quarter, 2x 1964 dimes and a 1951 dime.
