I got a single 2009 1 Euro cent yesterday. Not so surprisingly, I dropped it somewhere along the way back home and can not find it.

@TJLang I have found one elongated cent at a Coinstar (posted somewhere in this topic) and, to be honest, I was more excited to find it than anything else I've gotten. Of course, I have not found any silver, yet.

Out of curiosity, how often do you find coins (at all) in Coinstars, and how often do you find silver and/or older coins in Coinstars? I've checked probably about 20 times now (including a store that has two of them right next to each other), and all I've ever found is a Euro 10c on the counter (interestingly enough, on the day I actually decided to use the machine). So, respectively, I'm about 3-5% and 0%.

I check a few machines most days. Most times there is nothing in the tray. There is no science to it just right place at the right time. Last week I think I picked up 6 silver dimes, I was very lucky. Sometimes it seems like you will never find another coin of any type. I have also pulled $4-$5 in regular US coins from machines. It does produce a lot of foreign coins (I don,t know much about them). Bottom line the more you search the bette your luck will be.

It is about 1 out of every four or five times I find something. But mostly foriegn and a lot of sticky small change. But the first time I found a 1961 Quarter in really good shape. And that with this tread I was hooked. Now evan my wife will check when she goes to the store. She is luckier than I am.

msl2196, I concur that it is about 1 out of 4 or 5 Coinstar machines that "pays off" so to speak. Single coin finds seem the ones most likely to produce silver, in the form of dimes... About once every 25 or so machine visits, I'll find a silver coin. The key is persistency. Keep hitting the machines over and over. Eventually you'll find something good. Last year, two days before Christmas, I hit the motherlode while trying to beat the last minute shopping crowds early in the morning... 79 coins including 71 silvers (37 quarters, 34 dimes). http://goccf.com/t/128850&whichpage=161#2595953

Again John77, nicely done and very nice finds, congratulations! It's almost hard to believe that you found so much Silver 2 days before Christmas. Maybe that was your gift from santa, since you're a coin collector.

Thanks, guys! I was ecstatic when it happened! I showed the guys at the LCS (where I've gone for 40 years) and they said they had heard of a few others who had similar stories. It was definitely an awesome early Christmas present!
